Aspire XC 1780 desktop PC Ram upgrade. After installing new RAM the unit did not boot
Hi,
I recently purchased an expire XC 1780 desktop PC and looked to upgrade the standard 8mb ram to 16mb by utilising the empty memory slot.
I bought an 8mb card online with the spec: Lexar DDR4 3200 UDIMM and when fitted the pc wouldn't boot up.
I'm only a keen novice at this game but competent enough to fit the card correctly.
The only difference I have found is that the fitted card is DIMM and the additional one is UDIMM
Are any of you clever people able to tell me what the heck I'm doing wrong?
Many thanks

What is the part number for the memory you got? UDIMM is just an unbuffered DIMM, which is the norm for most desktops and laptops, RDIMM is registered DIMM and is used in higher end workstations and servers.

Hi,
Thank you very much for the reply
I will quote all numbers on the extra one I bought. I haven't checked the original one fitted yet.
It's Lexar DDR4 3200
LD4AU008G-B3200ASST
8GB 1Rx8 3200MT/s CL22 1.2V
2448 SB1G8ST
These are all the numbers I could see, I hope one of them helps!

Hi andyspan!
Does it reach the Acer-logo?
If so, did you check that bios encountered correct new size? (hit Del key)
Had a similar experience the other day. Had to recover Windows.😑
Before starting I had the advice here to fit two identical memories and replace the original (which I could not find on market).

That memory should work, unless it weren't fully seated or something. Do you get a constant beep when you try to turn it on?

Hi Billsey,
Thanks again.
It was fully seated and no beeps.
I'm beginning to wonder if the fault is the stick itself.
The monitor is blank, nothing reaching it,
All works well if I remove new memory.

Yep, sounds like you got a bad stick, though it should beep to show the error.
