I have an Aspire V17 Nitro laptop updated to Windows 10 and the latest windows security update for January 2025 does not install successfully. I have to revert back to a system restore point to start Windows. I have paused updates for 35 days. Can anyone give any further advise?

If the latest Win-10 - January 14, 2025—KB5049981 (OS Builds 19044.5371 and 19045.5371) update does not update through windows update then try and download the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalogue KB5049981 page - Windows 10, version 1903 and later, and download this update to your laptop as a stand alone file and try to install this update that way, if it still doesn't install then try the Win-10 windows update troubleshooter and see if that fixes this windows update installation update issue as your Win-10 OS must have errors and that is why this file doesn't install, its also a good idea to do a System File Checker and the DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth for Win-10 to fix any corrupted files through command prompt. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hi Steven, thanks for the response. I did successfully download and install KB5049981, however I was prompted to reboot and after restarting, again my machine hung at 98% again. After doing another restore, I performed DISM clean up and scan, but this failed to find any issues with my machine. Then I tried the Win-10 windows update trouble-shooter and this indicated it had made changes and to try again; I tried both updates again (KB5050188 & KB5049981), but still the same issue persisted, froze at 94% again.

That is great that its all fixed up and your OS is working, as these sorts of things can get really frustrating and can cause damage to a computer that has your personal files on, for example this morning my Win-11 decided not accept my pin so I had to reset it which is baffling and very annoying going through the Microsoft verification process 😀anyway, great that you got back on the forum and gave us the details for the solution. Good work.
