Aspire A515-51 really slow to boot to desktop Windows 11

Shortly after we purchased this laptop I started to take around 5 to 10 minutes to boot to the desktop and ran slow while trying to use apps, I realize that it might be a Windows problem but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions on how to speed it up.

All win updates are up to date, have disabled almost all start up programs, checked drivers, none with question or exclamation marks, but is there a program I can get to check the drivers to see if they're all up to date.

I look at my daughter's Asus about the same age and specs and it boots in seconds.

Hope to at least speed mine up close to hers

Hi @Gordow please tell me the exact model of the computer, something like A515-58
Is the computer new or used?
Did it come with Windows 11 installed?

Windows 11 is not compatible with this computer:

Windows 11 Compatibility | Acer United States

But that doesn't mean it can't be installed, just that it may have problems with some device and its driver, anyway, it shouldn't cause a slowness problem, it's important to know if you upgraded to Windows 11 on top of Windows 10 or it was a clean installation, that is, Windows 10 was removed to install Windows 11, this would be the correct procedure.
If the procedure was correct, the problems that can cause slowness are:
-Hard drive in poor condition, but this happens with mechanical drives, is yours mechanical or an SSD?
    -Virus, Trojan or malware infection
-An installed application incompatible with the Windows 11 system
    -Full hard drive
    -Non-original Windows
-Disk fragmentation (only if it's mechanical)

I noticed that the bios is showing 2.02, is this the bios it was shipped with? I never touch the bios and some have said this bios has caused problems for them. Would this bios be the cause of problems I'm having with my laptop?

If it's not the right bios can it be rolled back?

Installed win 11 over win 10 after win updated it , was legit copy of both 10 and 11.

Ran malware and anti virus, tried to roll back the latest win 11 update but couldn't go back even though it had updated 3 days ago.

Anything you could suggest to me to do?

I don't want to lose my pictures, videos and personal documents

The Aspire A515-51 model is an 8 years old laptop released in 2017 that has an Intel 7th Gen cpu and Intel HD Graphics and its mainboard security TPD chip is not a 2.0 version and doesn't have the min 8th Gen cpu specs that is needed for a laptop/desktop to be compatible with the genuine Microsoft Win-11 upgrade. Do not run the Win-11 non genuine copy OS as that could also be a reason for the slow boot! and function of this laptop.

Run only the genuine Win-10 OS 22H2 version and all windows update to have the last OS build 19044.5247 for this OS. The bios version 2.02 that is installed in your laptop is the last Acer bios for this laptop and it should not cause any problems as its updated the following things to make the laptop perform much better:

    1. Microcode update.
    2. Update VBIOS for NV_17S_G0(V86.08.2D.00.41)、NV_17S_G2(V86.08.2D.00.42).
    3. Update Intel ME Firmware 11.8.55.3510.
    4. Add SCCM solution.
    5. Change touch pad mode from basic to advance for Linux sku.

Make sure that the ram is not faulty and that this laptops either "B&M Key" SATA 3 M.2 SSD boot drive (note that this laptop can't be fitted with an "M Key" PCIe M.2 SSD drive) or its 2.5" SATA 3 mechanical boot drive (whichever is its boot drive is) are functioning properly and 100% and not causing the slow boot, as these two things are the main culprits for an old laptop booting and functioning slowly. good luck and hope this helps you out further.

So if I restore the windows that came withe laptop and chose to save my settings, does that mean my videos and pictures and personal documents will be gone as well?

The BIOS is correct, it is not the problem:

Is your disk an SSD or an HDD?

As I mentioned, if it is an HDD it may have reading problems.

My recommendation is to back up all your photos, documents and personal information, this is something you should always do because if the disk breaks, you will lose all your information, you should always have a backup of your personal files.

Once you have saved your personal files, reinstall Windows from the system options. You can choose to keep files, but this does not guarantee that those not in the personal folder will be kept, which is why it is very important to always have a backup copy on an external medium such as a USB disk.

Not sure if SSD or HDD, I will check further when I'm home.

I have a external 1tb HD , could I use this to do a backup of my files from the laptop? And how would you suggest that I back them up, and then move them back to the laptop?

Simply copy your photos, videos, documents, music, etc. files to the external drive and you can copy them back to the drive when you fix the problem.

Also keep in mind that when you reinstall the operating system, you will need to reinstall all the applications that you installed that do not come with Windows.

This is a delicate process, have you ever reinstalled the operating system?
I mention this because I do not want you to lose your files and be able to reinstall your favorite applications, perhaps, in your case, it is best that someone close to you, who is familiar with computers, could help you with the entire process.

But it is important to first know if it is a disk problem, as I mentioned, HDDs, which are mechanical disks, can have problems of this type, something that does not happen with SSDs.
According to the service manual, it is a SATA/SSHD, that is, mechanical:

I've worked on computers before ,installing and reformatting windows computers over the years but it's been awhile, I just want this laptop to work properly again, when you're into Windows it works good and fast, it just takes longer to boot into Windows and to restart or shutdown, if I could fix that I'd be a happy person.

I'd like to avoid stripping it right down and reformatting/ reinstalling, I there was a program that might scan for problems I'd like to find one.

In that case, look for what is causing the slow startup and shutdown, it is probably an application.
There is a method but you have to be patient, it consists of disabling non-Windows services and activating them one by one until you find the culprit, the process is as follows.

    -Windows key + R

-Type in the run box: msconfig

    -Tab: Services

-Check the box: Hide all Microsoft services

-Uncheck the services that remain, select them all and then - Disable all

    -Apply

    -Accept

    -Restart and check the startup.

If it starts quickly, you must find out which non-Windows service of those disabled is the cause of the delay in startup, this task is hard but it is worth it since it consists of enabling the first one, accepting and restarting to see if it starts quickly, if it does, it is not the culprit service and you would have to try the next one, one by one until you find it.
