It appears that the highest CPU support for your Acer Aspire M3970G would be the Intel Core i7-2600, which is part of the Sandy Bridge family. For the GPU, the most suitable upgrade without overstretching your original 300W PSU would be the NVIDIA GTX 1060 Ti. This setup should provide a good balance of performance without causing power issues.

    So

    • CPU Upgrade: Intel Core i7-2600
    • GPU Upgrade: NVIDIA GTX 1060 Ti

You can upgrade the CPU to an i7-2600 or 2700K and GPU to GTX 1050 with a PSU like an ATX 550W (see the Benchmark link).

I hope you haven't forgotten about the post and will answer my question. I have the same PC and want to upgrade the video card. My budget is not big, so I wanted to choose GTX 770. Will it fit the PC or not? I can't see how many pins are on the power supply. If there are any mistakes, forgive me, I am writing through a translator, we can contact in telegram

Just some further suggestions to you as I've done many upgrades of these old desktops and laptops as they can be upgraded to quite some useful and additional platforms to have fun with 😃and this is what the Aspire M3790G desktop Acer service guide specs are and what Acer fitted to this desktop oem and the range of cpu's, ram, gpu's and HDD that in my option will be the best upgrade that you can do, take it or leave it, its up to you?

I suggest that you concentrate on ram and upgrading the SATA 3 boot drive to a drive like the Samsung 1TB 870 EVO 2.5" SSD and with this desktops 300W PSU upgrade to either an NVidia GT720 or a GTX1030 or the top of the range for this desktop the GTX1650 gpu which will be the best upgrades of this desktop that you can do, as its i7-2600 model cpu is the best cpu to have with this desktop.

Also note, that a cpu is not the be all and end all of an upgrade on a desktop, as increasing ram and having a good and more efficient gpu and a quick SSD boot drive in combination improves performance and contributes to a successful upgrade. Here is all the information that you will need for an upgrade and the rest you will have to do yourself ss its a trial and error or if someone else has done this upgrade to this particular desktop they cam=n contribute much more. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

The below list are all the CPU's fitted to the M3970G desktops, also look at all the probable upgrades from @ CPU-Upgrade site which are not much as and if you upgrade to the Core i7-2700K you will get a 1.7% relevant performance increase to the i7-2600 cpu, as you can see on that link.

RAM specs suggested for this desktop

Typically Nvidia numbers their products with xxy0, where xx is the generation and y is the performance level within that generation. So, a 770 is 7th gen level 7. The higher the level, the more power needed to drive it. A 1030 (10th gen, level 3) would easily run on your 300W, as would a 1050. Look for the newest one you can afford in the level that works with 300W, so likely at the high end a 3050 or 4050, for more affordable maybe a 1650 (10 1/2 gen) or 2050.
