Hello,

I recently bought an Acer XR342CK monitor secondhand from someone - the monitor itself is in great shape, but the power brick was missing (the price reflected that, I figured I could find one pretty easily). It turns out my friends laptop charger matches the specs listed on the monitor exactly (19.5v 9.23a), but the monitor doesn't turn on when plugged in.

A few things - One, can anyone confirm what the connector on the original power brick for this monitor is supposed to be? It seems like a fairly standard barrel jack to me. I tried connecting to it through various adapters, and the monitor refuses to turn on. I don't think the barrel jack has to fit exactly for a connection to be made either.

Two, Is there any reason the adapter I'm using shouldn't work? Is there something I'm missing here? I popped the back off and looked at the boards - didn't see anything obviously wrong. The people I got it from said it worked last time when they had the power brick. I'm inclined to think that the proper power brick would solve the issue, but the evidence seems to point against that.

Thanks! Pardon my potential ignorance here, but why would the monitor need a power brick with a lower amperage than is listed on the monitor?

The stock adapter for the XR342CK from 2016 is described as:

    AC ADAPTER

    25.T3MM2.001

    ADAPTER 19V 135W ADP-135KB TE DELTA

That comes out as 7.1A. There are other models of XR342CK though, the XR342CKP, from 2020, uses a 180W adapter, which is 9.4A. You likely have a newer monitor and just didn't give us the full model number. There should have been several more letters after the XR342CK…

The one shown is for the XR342CK model from 2016. My guess is you have a newer model than that. The XR342CKP model from 2020 uses a 180W adapter, so 9.4A or so… When quoting a model number it's always best to give us the whole thing, there should be several letters after the XR342CK.

So I've tried a 180W adapter, and the monitor doesn't turn on. Can anyone answer my original questions?

With a 180W adapter and 19V it should turn on. It sounds somewhat like the monitor wasn't working when offered for sale. :(

I figured it out - the connector on the power brick I was using expected a larger center pin than what the monitor has, and it wasn't making contact. I was able to verify the monitor works by opening it up and connecting wires directly to the bottom pins of the jack, and I figured out the center pin was the issue by doing some testing with a barrel jack adapter.

Does anyone know where I can buy the proper adapter for this monitor? I could just get a generic one I suppose…

    Thanks for the help, everyone!

IIRC the barrel is supposed to have a 2.1mm hole in the center… Yours might be 2.5mm instead.
