I just got this predator computer in September. It is amazing. The one thing that does annoy me however is that the tower sets on my desk to my right. That is where the clear panel is and the lights are very cool but sometimes annoying. When my room lights are off they kind of glare on my monitor. Also, If I leave the computer on at night to download things the lights keep me awake as it is right near my bed. I have tried several time looking for a way to turn them down or even off but I couldn't find anywhere in settings to do so. Yesterday I was typing in the dark and I hit some hotkeys. My computer went into sleep mode, and I couldn't get it started again until I shut it down. Now the lights are not on. I am not sure what I did to make this happen. Was it one button are a series of buttons that I hit? I would like to know so I can turn the light on and off at will. I would also like to know if There is some map of this keyboard that tells me what these special buttons actually do. I admit that I am a little anxious about hitting the button without knowing what they do.

Which Predator model do you have? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like POxxx-xxx-xxxx. With most of the models you can set light behavior using Predator Sense.

So the paperwork says Model: D21E4

    predator P07-655*******

I'll start looking for predator sense to fix it but I have a long history of not working well with computers.

I looked at predator sense and it would not let me change anything to do with the lights. I moved the little color wheel around but nothing happened. every time I changed screens the color on the wheel went back to the original blue. I couldn't do any changes on the area space either they all just kept changing back to the blue and the lights didn't come back on.

After your lights go out, does everything on your machine function as normal?

Everything seems to work on my computer other than the lights. I can't see how they would all break down after only 3 months of use. It may just be my incompetence at using the predator sense or just computers in general. I will continue to work on the issue through the predator thing but I'm not expecting any good results. I have to type this stuff in MS Word and paste it here. When I type here the background is white and the characters are light grey. I guess old people are not supposed to use this. So sorry for any formatting mistakes.

No, that annoying color choice is something that a recent change to the community did. I think they tested the change in light mode, but not is dark mode. Since the gaming section defaults to dark mode we just have to live with it until they get around to changing it back… :( When typing if you do a CTRL-A all the text is highlighted, which is much more visible, but you need to remember to either click somewhere or use a cursor key to remove the highlight, or else your next keypress will replace the highlighted text.

I had to call tech support for the problem. He insisted that my predator sense is working fine. But it isn't. The only thing I can do is change from Celsius to Fahrenheit. When I turn my computer off the next time I turn it on again the lights still don't come on. I have to unplug and hold down the start button to reset the computer. Then the lights come back on when I turn it on again. But I also noticed that I can't set up different schemes for the computer (can't remember what the app calls them.) I'm just a bit frustrated that it doesn't work, and the support doesn't seem to understand. All I want is to be able to turn them on and off at will. Changing the color would be a bonus. But I don't even have the option for the lights to change. I can only keep them one color (blue, if they decide to turn on).

OK, for your PO7-655 (BTW, PO as in Predator Orion, not P0 as in Predator Zero, searches here will fail with the zero), which BIOS version is installed? They have released several for that model, I think 1.05 is the latest. They often make changes to Predator Sense to match a new BIOS revision, since it does some low level access to the BIOS settings. Also, sometimes Windows update changes the BIOS for you, so you might be running a newer version than Acer provides. Same thing with Predator Sense itself, sometimes Windows update pushes a new version of that. Finally which OS revision is running? 24H2 is different than 23H2 and that might affect how well it works…

Thanks for sticking with me and trying to help. A lot of your questions are confusing to me but I will look into them this week. I think I have the 23h2 OS, but I could be wrong on that. As for BIOS, I have no idea. But what you are explaining is that windows and Predator are both probably updating but are on a different sheet of music.

    BIOS is 1.02

a little concerned about updating because I am not computer smart and anything most people have no problems with, I seem to draw out all the bugs. I really don't want to brick my computer. Still looking for OS numbers.

Updating the BIOS is actually pretty easy, and they have a PDF included with instructions. There is an EXE file and you basically just run that as Administrator (right click the file and select Run as Administrator). It will do a reboot with the BIOS upgrade handled automatically, so make sure you have anything saved that is open before starting it. The only real risk is if you have power go out part way through…
