Why does my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57 keep disconnecting the charger and causing FPS drops while gaming?

I have an Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57 gaming laptop with a battery that no longer holds a charge, so I always use it while plugged in. Previously, this setup worked fine, even while gaming. However, recently, I've been experiencing an issue where the laptop emits a beep sound during gameplay, and the charger disconnects and reconnects repeatedly every 1-2 seconds. This causes FPS drops in the game, but it returns to normal once the charger reconnects.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Could it be related to the battery condition, or is it an issue with the charger or power delivery? Should I replace the battery, or is there another solution? I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Does the disconnecting charger happen during normal use?

You can try replacing the charger to see if this issue goes away.

Without the battery, high usage like gaming consumes more power and the charger alone cannot handle it. It is recommended that the battery be replaced to ensure the laptop is stable during gaming.

Hi, maybe you have Acer Care or Acer Sense running with the battery calibration or 80% battery charge options. In WIndows Services stop accSvc and accAgentSvc, right click on these services and in Properties change the Startup type to Disabled, click on Apply and OK. Check that your BIOS version is 1.20 and reset BIOS to factory default with F9, save changes on exit BIOS and check Windows Update including Optional Updates. Do not use a USB-C charger as TBT4 USB-C port does not support Power Delivery with a charger. Use this 180-W power adapter that came with the unit (see picture):

If the problem continues uninstall the 2 battery drivers in Device Manager and just reboot:

or, as suggested by AnhEZ28, replace the battery.

I have tried removing the laptop battery and gaming without it, but the issue remains the same. When playing Mafia Definitive Edition and The Sims 4, I still experience FPS drops. However, when I disabled the NVIDIA GPU and used the integrated graphics card instead, The Sims 4 ran smoothly but with lower FPS due to the limitations of the integrated GPU.

I noticed that the laptop gets quite hot, and I’m planning to replace the thermal paste soon. However, I’m unsure if the problem is solely related to overheating or if there might be other underlying issues.

Before taking my laptop to a service center, I wanted to get your insights and advice. Thank you!

I have experienced the same issue. It was due to overheating, which caused maximum GPU speed and high power drain.

Then, I replaced the thermal paste, cleaned the fans and air vents, and undervolted the GPU using MSI Afterburner after configuring it (Undervolting a GPU using MSI Afterburner can be done on most laptop GPUs as well).

After these modifications, I achieved stable temperatures and have never experienced the same issue again. It has been 3 years, and the problem has not recurred since then.
