Hello Community.

My new laptop bought via Amazon arrived and ran very hot along the function keys area and the fans blew constantly from the get go. I did all the battery eco recommendations and it calmed down.

Today it crashed, twice. Once during an easy match 3 game and it rebooted again. The second time was during an Amazon search and this time it wouldn't fix. I had to use my recovery USB that I thankfully had made and it has been behaving for the last hour. I am not a heavy user by any measure and wanted to have this laptop for the next 5 years.

I am now nervous. I don't want to be recovering this laptop time and time again. I have asked Amazon my options and they have told me to contact Acer. I really don't want this hassle and wondered what words of wisdom about the route I should take to secure peace of mind?

The Swift GO 14 SFG14-63 is based on the AMD cpu and graphics platforms and this platform runs hotter than the Intel platforms and their NVidia gpu's, which also run hot in the Swift laptops range (I'm using a Swift SFX14-51G that also runs hot, so I know this from personal experience) but the Intel and NVidia platform that I have run cooler and dissipate heat allot better by its fans, this should also happen with your SFG14-63 laptop also as its 2x fans should cool the thermal module adequately.

    Thermal module of this laptop

What I suggest is for you to first make sure that the following things are done to the laptop:

    1. Make sure that you have the Win-11 24H2 and all the windows updates so that the OS build is at 26100.2605 that is the last build.
    2. Update all the Advanced options > Optional updates that this laptop has on windows update.
    3. Update the Acer bios to the last version 1.06 for this laptop.

After doing all the above, your Swift GO 14 SFG14-63 should be running perfectly and should not be overheating, remember also that this laptop is NOT a gaming laptop but it will play low to mid-range games perfectly but anything with complex graphics will overheat and run hot especially if your Swift GO 14 SFG14-63 is the lowest spec in the range of this latop, which is the 8GB LPDDR5 6400 MT/s model ram and with the AMD RyzenTM 5 HS processor with the integrated AMD Radeon™ 660M, which all these laptops have and all have a max frequency of 1900 MHz at 2GB memory max, which is not a gaming gpu and pushing the cpu and graphics will create overheating and this laptops 2x tiny thermal fans to spin always.

Good luck and hope this explains to you the range that your new Swift laptop was designed for by Acer, as it’s a normal very handy portable 14” laptop for mainly web browsing, low to mid range multitasking and some editing but nothing too complex as otherwise and if you push this laptop to beyond these tasks, this laptop will overheat, so be aware of all this.

    Hello Stephen

Thank you taking the time to answer my query and your explanations was very clear and useful. You know stuff!

So the new bios was installed and that was a bit of a lively thing for me. I am not being offered 24H2 yet and maybe this is really needed. I have 23H2 10.0.22631. I have installed the optional updates and haven't had any further crashes in the last hour or so. The fans are relatively dormant and the laptop cool. I have kept the eco battery settings on. For your information this is the spec of the laptop: AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS 16GB 1TB SSD Integrated Graphics 14" 2.8k OLED. I was hoping to get 5 years out of her. Funny, I'm not sure if it is relevant but when I was running a simple game called Roman Adventures: Britons the timing measured by the game was about 25% longer that it actually was.

My question now is: Do I return this laptop under the "short term right to reject and request a refund" clause of Amazon citing the overheating and crashing issues and then get another laptop or trust that the changes I have made will work with no more need to use the recovery disc? Maybe this is a "how long is a piece of string" question or maybe you have a more definitive opinion.

    Thank you

    Best wishes

    Hilary

The new Win-11 24H2 version update ,ISO file can be downloaded and installed as a standalone installation .ISO file «< from this link, and also look at the guide of how to install this update at this link >»> here, as and if you haven’t got this update as yet then you can do that. Be aware that you need to do all the windows updates to reach the OS build 26100.2605 also and all that can be done easily, its up to you if you are prepared to do this or wait for the windows update that reaches your latop and its done automatically.

With you returning this laptop to Amazon, its your choice as you know now what temps this AMD laptop reaches and as laptops get old they get worse, especially in these small packages. Be aware that the Swift range of 14” laptops are a laptop that pack allot of performance in a small package and they are really built as a potable package, and are an excellent platform in doing that, its not so much for an elderly guy like myself as I’m blind as a bat these days 😁 and need glasses for such small 14” screens and their graphics, but for the younger folks (don’t know if that is you) who have good eye sight and are on the go and mobile the Swift is an excellent package and it’s a perfect tool.

I would suggest that you change your AMD Swift GO 14 SFG14-63 to the Intel Swift Go 14 SFG14-71 with the Intel® Graphics or the other and newer Intel platform Swift Go 14 SFG14-72 or the latest Swift SFG14-73 which are very much in the same price range or the higher end graphics models of the Swift SFX14-72G that has either the high end Ultra 7 processor 155H with 32GB LPDDR5-6400MT/s and NVidia RTX4070 graphics or the lower end Ultra 5 processor 125H with 16GB LPDDR5-6400MT/s and the RTX3050 and up to the RTX4050 gpu’s. This is my opinion only and if you want high end graphics get a laptop with NVidia RTX gpu graphics also. Good luck and hope this helps you further.

    click on services
check - hide all microsoft services
    click on disable all
    click on startup

it will show you the list of programs
remove all the unwanted third party programs.
    Please don’t remove any drivers.

If you are not sure , please don’t remove it.  Try windows + r - on the run window type temp - click ok -  it will show you the bunch of files -  try ctrl + a - select all files - press the shift key and click on delete files Try windows + r - on the run window type  %temp%  - click ok  - It will show you the bunch of files -  try ctrl + a - select all files - press the shift key and click on delete files If you are not able to remove some files - click on skip and then click click on continue.. Try windows + r  - on the run window - type cleanmgr - click ok

    chose keep my files

chose the account - type the password - click on local reinstall - click on reset

It will wipe out everything and take your computer to day one like a new computer. You can also do the recovery in an alternative way..There are two alt keys on the keyboard.  If you look at the bottom row of keyboard you can see the one on the left side of space bar and the other on the right side of space bar.  The alt key on the right side will be looking like alt, alt gr or alt car.  Turn off the computer.  Hold the alt key on the left and tap f10 continuously.   It will go to repair mode. It will be in progress If the keep my files option is not working Go to troubleshoot  -  click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – just remove my files – click on reset
It will reinstall windows. If the just remove my files is not working..Go to troubleshoot  -  click on reset this pc – click on remove everything – click on local reinstall – Fully clean the drive – click on reset

It will reinstall windows. Note: You can also go to chose an option , continue , troubleshoot by holding the alt key + tapping f10  or alt gr + tapping f10 on the keyboard while turning on the computer.    Once you see the troubleshoot option, you can stop tapping the f10 and stop holding the alt key.    Then you can try the keep my files and remove everything ( just remove by files and fully clean the drive ) by following the steps which was mentioned above.
