Aspire A515-55 Series,Model N18Q13-Query to find a more compact and streamlined solution, like HP-G5
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend and I work from home on alternate days, and we share a desk with two monitors. I'm looking for an easy and compact solution to quickly connect and disconnect both laptops to the monitors.
At work, I use an HP G5 docking station with my laptop, and it works perfectly. However, I’m not sure if her laptop, an Acer Aspire A515-55-76DW (Model N18Q13), supports video output via USB-C since it’s a 2020 model.
Currently, she connects one monitor directly via HDMI, and for the second monitor, she uses a j5Create adapter. We're hoping to find a more compact and streamlined solution, like the HP G5.
Could anyone help us figure this out?
Thanks in advance!

The Acer Aspire 5 A515-55-76DW does not support USB-C DP Alt Mode for video output. The USB-C port on this model is primarily for data transfer and does not support DisplayPort Alternate Mode. The j5Create USB 3.0 hub would be a solution but that link does not mention the max. supported refresh rate for 2K so one has to assume only 30Hz. I recommend looking for a better Active Graphics USB3.0 adapter something like this Amazon.com: WAVLINK USB 3.0 or USB C to HDMI Adapter for Dual Monitors, Universal Video Graphics Adapter for Mac and Windows, Thunderbolt 3/4, USB 3.0 or USB-C, 1080p@60Hz : Electronics or higher end: Amazon.com: USB 3.0 to Dual HDMI Adapter - 4K+4K 60Hz Ultra HD - Built-in DisplayLink DL6950 Chip - Extend Screen to Multiple Monitor TV Compatible with Windows,Mac OS,Android,Chrome OS,Ubuntu(HDMI+HDMI) : Electronics or a proper docking station Amazon.com: WAVLINK USB 3.0 and USB-C Dual 4K Display Universal Laptop Docking Station with DisplayPort and HDMI Docking Staion Dual Monitor for Mac, Windows(2 HDMI, 2 DP, Gigabit Ethernet, 6 USB 3.0, Audio) : Electronics
Note, not compatible with Linux and you need to download the driver from the DisplayLink official website.

So, with this Acer, it's actually impossible to use USB-C to connect to the HP G5, right? Do you know if it's possible to use a standard USB connection instead to connect to the HP G5?
Thank you in advance.

Hi, that is correct, not possible as the minimum System Requirements of the HP GS are USB Type-C - USB Power Delivery, Alt Mode DisplayPort that the Aspire A515-55 does not support. The only solution is getting one of these active USB3:0 graphics adapters or the larger USB3.0/USB-C docks that have internal active graphics and do not charge the laptop (don't require TBT, check those links I posted above) 😉
