Case fan not running. Installed into the open 4 pin fan connection on my TC-1760-AU93.

I installed a case fan into the open 4 pin fan connection on my TC-1760-AU93. The fan will turn on for a couple seconds when I first start the computer, but then doesn't turn on again any time after that. Even during heavy gaming sessions when the other fans are running on full. How do I get the new case fan to run?

The case fan should be connected to the #17 as shown in the mobo diagram below, as that is the SYS_FAN1-System cooling fan connector. Or you can connected the fan to the PSU directly as that will make the case fan come on when the desktop is turned on and off when the desktop is turned off. Try that and let us know, good luck.

Thanks for the response and the image. That is the connector I have it plugged in to. The only time the fan runs though is for a couple seconds when I first power on the computer. Then it stops and doesn't ever come back on until I turn it off and on again. Then it goes on for a couple seconds again and goes off. Are there other things I need to be checking?

Go into the bios Advanced > System Fan Speed and change the speed as it might be off

These are the temps fo r the TC-1760

    • System Shutdown Temperature (75°C) This item can set the shutdown temperature of the System.
    • CPU Shutdown Temperature (105°C) This item can set the shutdown temperature of the CPU.
    • VRD Shutdown Temperature (100°C) This item can set the shutdown temperature of the VRD.
    • Smart Fan (Enabled) This item enables or disables the smart fan speed by changing the Pulse Width modulation (PWM) outputs.

If the fan you purchased isn't a PWM fan, then that might be part of the issue. Most four pin fans are PWM controlled though.

Went into the bios. All 3 shutdown temperature settings just give the option to enable or disable. All are enabled. The smart fan is enabled as well. The system fan speed shows n/a. I am using a Noctua pwm fan.

What is the Noctua case fan model? As you should connect the fan directly to the PSU and let the fan work always until you turn the desktop off, as the Noctua case fans are a very quite fan so it will not be obtrusive, try that as that is what I would do or I would buy a different fan, as the Noctua must be the wrong SYS_Fan for this mobo. Good luck.

Note: if the Noctua fan is a PWM stands for pulse width modulation. PWM fans and/or pumps are found in some CPU coolers and GPU (aka graphics card) coolers. To use this feature, you’ll need a motherboard with a PWM header and the appropriate software.

It is a Noctura NF-A9 PWM fan. Where do I connect the fan directly to the PSU? Do you know what I would look for in a different model fan that might be compatible? Thanks.

Buy one of these adapter cables and plug the fan into one end and the other end into the PSU

I tried a few brands of 4 pin pwm fans but none worked correctly. Went with just a 3 pin non pwn fan to the system fan connector. It's a constant speed but it works.

You probably can lift one of the wires and get the same results.

There are programs to monitor the speed and temperature of the fan.

    I used to use Speccy.
