Hi all, so I have an acer swift 3 n19h3 (sf313) which out of the blue died on me. When I try to power it up, the keyboard backlight comes on but the screen stays black and the fan doesnt work.

I tried resetting the battery with a pin but didnt seem to help. Any ideas? My guess is that the motherboard died, as the laptop didn't seem to be of quality with problems since day one.

Are there available replacement motherboards at a cost that makes sense?

Hi, Swift 3 SF313-52 or Swift 3 SF313-53? These are 2020 models, and the warranty probably expired. Try to do a hard reset: Power drain + CMOS reset: Open the back of the laptop and disconnect the battery cable from the motherboard. Locate the CMOS module (with 2 twisted wires Red and Black under the SSD, see picture) and remove the coin battery. Shorten the +/- terminals inside the CMOS capsule for 2 seconds with a bended paperclip and put the coin battery back with the + sign facing up, close the CMOS capsule. Next, press the Power Button on the keyboard for 10-15 seconds after that reconnect the battery cable to the motherboard. Close the laptop, plug-in the adapter and try to boot.

A new board would cost the same as a 2024 new laptop ($1,170). NB.A4J11.005 Acer MAINBOARD W/CPU.I5-1135G7.OB16GB.UMA

Yes, we don't have a cross reference for those "N19H3" style numbers. An eBay listing shows it might be a SF313-52-526M, but then another listing shows it as a different model. I sometimes think Acer reuses those number in different model lines… Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like SF313-xxx-xxxx. As Puraw suggests a full reset might bring it back, assuming the issue is a corrupted CMOS. If the issue is a corrupted battery then the reset button, if used in the full reset process, might bring it back. Disconnect everything including power, press and hold the reset for 15 seconds or more, then wait 15 minutes or more for all the residual power to bleed off. Reconnect only the charger and wait for the indicator to show a full charge and only then try turning it back on. Windows laptops are fairly notorious for getting the internal battery data corrupted, which can cause all sorts of weird symptoms. Another possibility is that the display has gone bad. You can usually verify that by plugging an external monitor (or TV) into the laptop. If that comes up then we need to diagnose the display.

Hi all and thank you for your replies. The exact model is SF313-52-58DH and the fact that it is the second one I am getting issues with, tells you everything about the quality (both had issues with monitor at first before moving to more permenant problems).

So I followed the instructiosn above, which I also found elsewhere, without any luck. Laptop powers up with keyboard backlight turning on, even fan works from time to time but that's about it. I tried using an hdmi to an external monitor without any luck either. So I guess the motherboard is dead.

From what I can see, I can find the motherboard for 155-170€ in aliexpress, but I don't think it's worth it.

So This one is probably becoming parts on ebay too…

You might be able to reflash the BIOS using a Windows install flash disk, then using the Repair mode to get a command prompt where you can run the flash utility. If that doesn't work you could try the crisis disk route:

if that also fails then the only solution is to send to a service center where they can reflash the BIOS, and test for other potential errors that could be the cause. With your symptoms it sounds like POST is not starting, which is either a fairly major hardware issue or a corrupted BIOS.

I will give that a try too. My money is on hardware fail cause it was working alright and actually in Ms word when it went to black screen and never recovered. I have already contacted a popular repair center where they can also identify small issues on Mobo (like some pcb burned) and fix.

I didn't manage to do that. I got the latest bios from the website and made the usb, but as the laptop doesn't seem like powering up, other than the keyboard light, (no green logo or anything) I can't get to crisis recovery.

So that is a further indication the issue is a hardware problem rather than BIOS. If it were just a corrupted BIOS the crisis disk would still work.
