Acer Predator Helios Neo PHN16-72 issues upgrading RAM to 32gB. Help Needed

Folks, I've bought a new Acer Predator Helios Neo 16, PHN16-72. It comes with 16GB of RAM, and while that's okay, having 50%+ RAM usage just from Windows and a simple antivirus + VPN is concerning. I decided to upgrade my RAM to 32GB and bought two 16GB RAM modules with 5600 MHz speed from Crucial.

When I installed them for the first time, my heartbeat started racing because I got a black screen with only the keyboard and fans working. Nothing was loading. I tried a hard reset of the BIOS, but it didn't help. The BIOS was already updated to the latest version beforehand. As a last resort, I tried swapping back to the original RAM, which fixed everything and got the laptop running as usual.

I tried different approaches afterward: I installed both modules and waited for 5 minutes - nothing happened; I installed one module and waited for over 15 minutes - still nothing happened. It works with the original SK Hynix RAM modules though. The problem is that these are rare and mostly out of stock, and I couldn't find any place to buy them. I believe they're too specialised for the mass market, which is why they're difficult to find.

I was wondering, what RAM modules would be compatible with the laptop? Or is there any way to make these Crucial modules work? I would like to upgrade the RAM but can't do it successfully. I've read many topics and discussions on this matter, and some people can insert any module and have it work on their first try. Some people have the same issue as I do, but I couldn't find any solution. Rather than returning the laptop, I'd like to pursue upgrading the RAM, as I like the overall performance. I'd appreciate any help on this matter. Cheers.

The Kingston KVR56S46BS8-16 modules (16GB DDR5 5600MT/s Non-ECC Unbuffered SODIMM) were tested and use JEDEC standard latency DDR5-5600 timing of 46-45-45 at 1.1V. I believe that the Crucial SODIMMs you installed may use XMP profile/overclocking that is not supported by BIOS. KVR56S46BS8-16

Thanks, I appreciate your answer and especially the specific details on the tested Kingston modules. I can order those right away without any hassle while returning my Crucial ones. Let's hope for the best and that I'll manage to successfully upgrade my RAM. I'll let you know how it goes once they arrive and I install them. Since they've been tested on the same laptop, I'm hopeful that I won't face any issues. Thank you again, I really appreciate it.

The below list of ram modules is the DDR5 memory that Acer recommends and has tested the PHN16-72 laptop with, I also suggest that you look at the existing 1x 16GB DDR5-5600MT/s module that Acer fitted to your PHN16-72 laptop and try to buy a matching pair of the same DDR5 ram from the same manufacturer as it will work out allot cheaper., as that is the sensible way to upgrade ram.

These are the ram modules Acer tested and recommends for the PHN16-72 laptops so buy these modules only and don't buy anything else,

I'm now confused. I couldn't find any of those tested modules that StevenGen posted for sale. I did find KVR56S46BS8-16 and was going to order it. When I went to the Kingston website again to check what they offer for my laptop, I saw they had KCP556SS8-16 listed as a system-specific RAM module. These two modules seem identical and cost almost the same.

I can't get any of yours, Steven. I found SAMSUNG modules for 82 euros somewhere, but I'm not paying 164 euros for 32GB of RAM when I can get 32GB from Kingston for £90.

I'm going to bed and will return my current Crucial modules and order Kingston ones tomorrow. I hope there's no difference between KVR56S46BS8-16 and KCP556SS8-16, and that either will work.

Hey ridrex, install CPUz and in this software's SPD section see the exact ram specs of the 16GB DDR5-5600MT/s fitted by Acer to your laptop that works now in your laptop. Then search the web for the same ram part number and manufacturer as they are available and buy 1x 16GB DDR5-5600MT/s of that ram, its a very simple task and its not confusing.😀as then you will have virtually a kit at 32GB at 2x 16GB DDR5-5600MT/s type ram, simple.

Thank you, @StevenGen. I appreciate your help! However, my laptop has two 8GB modules, not one 16GB module. While I agree that finding an identical 16GB module to match an existing one would be a thoughtful approach, that's not applicable in my case. I have already ordered two 16GB Kingston modules (KVR56S46BS8-16) that @Puraw recommended, so let's see what happens.

Hey @Puraw, today I received and installed those KVR56S46BS8-16 modules. It took the laptop around 10-15 seconds to recognise them and boot with no problems! I now have 32GB of RAM, all because of your help! Thank you again and I really appreciate your help.
