I saw one question about Gateways on here from google that pointed here so I hope they are right

I have two Gateway laptops one will be sold or used
1 is a Gateway nv59c88u is a Intel Core i3 M370 2.40GHz
2 is a Gateway nv55s28u is a AMD A6-3420M 1.50GHz
and can these be upgraded with a faster processor
Thank you
Todd

Cant get any information on those Gateway laptops, as Acer doesn't have anything on them, they are listed in the support page but there are nor drivers. With the cpu's, you can get info at CPU-Upgrade, as its got a very extensive list of cpu upgrades information but hasn't got the newest cpu upgrades that are available on the market today. Good luck.

The list below are the probable upgrades for the cpu's that you asked about, as they are both a removable cpu and can be changed and upgraded but be careful and try to upgrade to a higher spec cpu that has the same TDP rating.

If you upgrade the Gateway with the Intel cpu to the higher spec Intel i7-640M it will have better performance than the AMD A8-3520M, I would go for the Intel laptop.

    • If you upgrade to the higher spec Intel Core i7-640M (PGA988) CPU its got a normal frequency: 2.8 GHz and a max Turbo frequency: 3.467 GHz
    • If you upgrade to the higher spec AMD A8-3520M CPU its got a normal frequency of 1,6GHz and max Turbo frequency of 2.5GHz

I personally would look at all the rest of the system before even thinking about a CPU upgrade. Do they both have SSDs instead of HDDs? If not, plan on that upgrade first. How much memory is on each and how much of an upgrade can be done? I'd guess they support 4GB max, as was typical for laptops of that era. If you plan on running Windows on them you will really want to have the full 4GB and the same is likely true if you are going the Linux route. Next the display, it looks like the NV59c has a 1366 x 960 display, the NV55s has a 1366 x 768 screen, so both are pretty low resolution. No real chance for an upgrade there. Only after all that is done and you are still unsatisfied with the performance do you look at a CPU upgrade, and expect the resulting performance increase to be minimal.
