Water poured on Swift SF316-51 & having trouble. Can someone advise best way to fix it?

I was to pick my Acer - Swit SF316-51 up from the table, and I found that it was dripping water. I think my kids poured water on the table, and the water found its way to where the laptop was placed. I tried to dry it by placing it near the small heater in the house. After a while, I wanted to turn it on. Now, it takes time to come on, and it only comes on when it's connected to power. I also noticed that the keyboard doesn't work well again. If, for instance, I key 'e'. it could give me ue and so on. So basically, the keyboard is not working well and anytime it goes to sleep, it will be re-started again, and when it's not powered, it will not come on. Can someone advise on the best way to solve these problems?

Your Swift has permanent damage from the water spill, if you are getting all those problems happening after the spill. With a liquid spill especially a water spill as water is easy to clean off, as you probably turned the laptop on when there was still moisture on its mainboard circuitries and keyboard.

With a liquid spill and water, you need to open the laptop up and take the mainboard out and thoroughly dry it with a hair dryer on all sides so that all the water is completely dried off from all components and the same has to be done to the keyboard and wherever else the water has penetrated before you turn the laptop on, otherwise the laptops components will short out if there is any moisture inside.

The only thing that you can do now is try this, open the laptop up and take the mainboard out and inspect the board where there is any mold and clean that part of the circuitries up with alcohol and a cotton bud and see if that fixes the board, if not then you need to take your laptop to a technician so that they can analyze the mainboard and replace any shorted/damaged chips that are affecting the board.

With the keyboard you will have to buy a new upper case and keyboard combination as that is how the Swift keyboard is sold, you can't just buy the keyboard as the upper case and keyboard are riveted together. Good luck and hope you sort this problem out.

Thank you so much for your swift response. I am not sure I have the confidence to lose/dismantle the machine. I was trying to click on the link to the part you listed above, but I couldn't click on the link. I am based in the UK, how can I get this fixed? Maybe if I can get a repair centre where they can fixed.

Send your Swift laptop to a guy called Sorin Electronics, he is just outside London and he is the best in the business for fixing these sorts of liquid spills, he also has a You Tube channel, and you can see what he does.

With the upper-case you will need the UK keyboard keys not the US keys, there is one on eBay, see this one Swift keyboard part #: 6B.ABDN2.013 which is about £97.24. Good luck.

This whole job should cost you about £170.00 plus, so be prepared for that sort of a cost with a new top case and keyboard.

The technician that I've recommended to you is 100% legitimate and has the expertise of how to fix these faults, Sorin has over 35 years experience in electronics both in Britain and Romania and has been on You Tube for about 10 years, so I'm not just recommending anybody to scam you. Be also aware that Acer Tech Support will not repair a liquid damaged mainboard, as they will replace a mainboard like you have and it will cost you about 10 times more. Good luck.
