Hello Acer community,

This is my first post here, so I hope I didn't break any community rule from this post.

I would like to share a somewhat strange encounter on my laptop recently.

Model: Aspire E14 E5-475G-50N0

OS: Windows 10 Home Single Language

RAM: 4 + 8 GB

When I was doing my assignment and it is about the memory allocation of my OS disk, my laptop suddenly flash a BSOD then shut down completely. So I can't see the error code that time.

After that when I attempt to turn it on, it says "No Bootable Device". I thought my SSD was fried but it still able to access on other PC.

And then it became the "Black Screen of Death". The power light is on, but no response at all, screen stays black, can't access BIOS setup, Alt + F10 won't work. Only by holding Fn + Esc keys and then Power button will get the power light blinking (I believe this is to flashing the BIOS).

So that I started to search around the community.

Tried all those hard reset steps, removed all RAM, relocate RAM, HDD and SSD all failed.

I found this post had the same issue with mine and totally the same thing happened except my case wasn't caused by Windows Update.

Unfortunately the author did not success at the end.

However, I stumbled on a random Reddit post where I asked for help from my technician friend, he sent me this link.

The comment from user GoTaku stated:

Listen. Try holding power button for 30 whole seconds. Even if device looks like it turned off, do not let go of power button. Make sure to hold it down for the full duration. Then press power again to start it back up. Let us know if that worked.

Basically hold for 30 seconds, you notice the power light on then off again but keep holding it until 30 seconds or above. After that simple press the power button it again.

The explanation quoted:

My theory is that the O/S is in a bad state, but pressing the power button is putting it to sleep in a way that makes it look like the power was forced off, but actually isn’t. Holding for 30 seconds will guarantee the power is fully turned off. It won’t reset the cmos.

It seems like the "Shutdown" in Windows 10 is just a 'saved state' in OS drive, and the 'saved state' is either corrupted or in bad state. So that by doing so, it will command the OS to perform full shutdown and reset those 'saved state' inside disk.

It worked like charm!!!

My PC is now booted up and worked fine. But a shame I still unable to find the error log from the Event Log in my PC.

I hope this method can still held hope for those who still having trouble finding solution or almost believe that their laptop is going to trash. And to update that this step still works!

However, please to try the standard fix first before trying on the solution on this post. I cannot sure everything is a concurrency or this is just simply work.

    Update:

I notice one of my RAM stick causing this issue again, removing it can solve the issue. But it strange that it doesn't produce beep sound but stays silent instead like it never happened…
