Hi!

So, when running on AC power, and I connect to a workspace Docking Station, charger and Win11_24h2 with (lower) PD over USB-C... I get this error message saying that the Charger is slow and might not load the battery.

1. I assume this is not harmful to the computer, right?

2. Is there a way to stop these messages? Probably a Windows issue, or...? (running my PN16-71 on Win11 24h2 November updates complete).

Hi, having both connected, Docking and Power Adapter should not harm the system, preference is given to the Power Adapter so the message about insufficient power pertains to the adapter not to the dock. If you installed 24H2 with an ISO image it could be a compatibility issue as the latest BIOS is one year old. If you also have external monitors connected to the USB-C port use the power cords for the monitors and HDMI ports on the dock.

Hi, did you manually downloaded the Windows11 24H2 ISO file or was your system upgraded automatically with "Check for Upgrades"?
There are two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt4 that both support USB-C charging, did you try both ports? If you're using a universal charger, get a gaming 100-W larger USB-C charger like this Asus ROG or use the barrel plug power adapter instead. https://rog.asus.com/power-protection-gadgets/chargers-and-adapters/rog-100w-usb-c-adapter-model/

Is your laptop the Predator Neo PHN16-71 model, as there is no such model as the PN16-71? Anyway, these laptops are NOT meant to be charged with any USB-C charger as there are only like a couple of USB-C chargers on the market that are specifically designed and can charge and operate safely with a laptop like the PHN16-71 while plugged into a USB-C charger, see the 330W DC & USB C GaN Charger the SlimQ F330 300W USB-C, which is a suitable adapter/charger for this laptop, but it aint cheap,

Most of the USB-C chargers on the market (including that Asus ROG 100W) will NOT provide sufficient power to charge and/or operate this gaming laptop like the PHN16-71, that is why you are getting the "Charger is slow and might not load the battery" as these laptops come with an Acer oem adapter/charger of a 300W High power 5.5PHY (1.7x5.5x11) Brick 19.5V/16.92A type charger, which is the most suitable and best charger to use for this laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hey Puraw! Nice to see you again, kindly giving me answers!

I'll get back to you later, about to eat! Short answer your question re: 24h2 - right now I'm not sure if I used the ISO, I simply followed Microsofts instructions [link] after MS told me my computer was ready for 24h2, straight forward, no hassle. I think i used the first and "the best option" to quote Microsoft: Windows 11 Installation Assistant. But again, I didn't really "put it in my memory" since it simply worked. Are you planning to upgrade?

Hey User_PH16_71, just some further info, and be aware that the PH16-71 also has the same adapter/charger as the Neo PHN16-71 model which is the "Chicony Power A330A012P 330W High power 5.5PHY (1.7x5.5x11) Brick 19.5V/16.92A" so the same applies to the PH16-71 laptop. If you want to charge and use a USB-C charger get the SlimQ F330 300W USB-C as that is the only safe and alternate charger that I suggest that you use to charge and/or keep plugged in while using the laptop, besides the oem PH16-71 charger. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

    @Puraw ,

    Hi!

    i. a) Answer: Can't remember if I've tried both usb-c ports. Could be, maybe, maybe not. Might be only the one to the right since that would be closer to the docking station I use.
    b) How come, do you think it would matter wich of the two usb-c ports?

    ii. Clarification,
    a) as I tried to describe in the original Post: I am running with AC power, that is the 'barrel' connection, and I connect to a docking station over USB-C.
    b) I am using the docking station, as 'host', in order to use attached peripherals, not in order to charge over usb-c.

So back to my questions in my original post:

    1. I assume this is not harmful to the computer, right?

    2. Is there a way to stop these messages?

    hey @StevenGen ! Whats up

So, the use case in my original Post is: running the laptop with AC power, that is the 'barrel' connection. Sorry if my English was unclear on that point. I have not intention to power the computer over USB in this case.

    Hence, my original questions are:

    1. I assume this is not harmful to the computer, right? [Running on original power brick, connecting to a (powered) docking station]

    2. Is there a way to stop these messages? [Error messages on usb charger, allthough I am using power brick barrel connection]

    @StevenGen

OFF TOPIC on usb-chargers, power brick

    Hey, guys! How's it going.
    I. [off topic] @Puraw @StevenGen So, thanks for your concern regarding usb chargers. If I would choose to use usb-c to charge my PH16-71 unit, my go to would be my GaN 300 W usb-c charger over a 1 meter Belkin 240 W rated usb-c to usb-c cable. However, I use the original power brick when charging at all times possible.

II. [off topic] @StevenGen Regarding your post above: "[…] be aware that the PH16-71 also has the same adapter/charger as the Neo PHN16-71 model which is the "Chicony Power A330A012P 330W High power 5.5PHY (1.7x5.5x11) Brick 19.5V/16.92A" so the same applies to the PH16-71 […]
I'd say: Negative, regarding the charger model. My unit PH16-71 came complete with a "Chicony Power Technology, A20-330P1A, 330.0 W, DC output 19,5 V 16,92 A." So not the model A330A012P.
That was in regard to your post @StevenGen , and my I ask if there is any concern or advise with regards to the charger A20-330P1A? Please, if you'd like to, clarify!

    Cheers and thanks again guys!

Hi, the ROG USB-C charger I mentioned is a gaming laptop charger, very powerful, I have one for my Asus Vivobook Oled and cannot think of anything better for your laptop (ROG is a gaming rig). Keep in mind that TBT4 PD is limited to 100-W, don't exceed that.

@Puraw Thanx! That answered my question!

    And to answer you :
Yes, I was using laptop > usb > dock (injected with own power supply, hence the error message) > Display Port > Display (with own power supply)
And, yes, the BIOS 1.16 i shy of two weeks from one year old!

(off topic) @Puraw re: TBT4 PD being limited to 100 W; I am using a USB power source of high quality and I would expect proper handshake between the laptop and the charger negotiating the apropriate voltage and ampere DC, wouldn't you? The point with a very power capable high quality usb trafo is, to me, rigidity and stable voltages/current :D

You are welcome, I am using two laptops same year and CPUs. one is an Acer Swift X14" the other Asus OLED 16", the Acer was upgraded to 14H2 automatically 2 weeks ago as the latest Acer BIOS included "Optimization of power and battery management, and tuning performance mode" updated 4 months ago the Asus BIOS is older, no power management fixes and has not been updated, still on 23H2.
