Trying to find correct info on an SSD that will work in my computer? Will this one work: ORICO NVMe SSD 1 TB Gen 3.4 w/heat sink. Or maybe this one: Fikwot FN501 Pro 1 TB MVNe ssd-m.2 2280 Gen 3x4? New to site and not great with computers so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, you have 2 PCIe M.2 slots: On the left side (main NVME drive, marked 1) is a Gen 4 compatible M.2 PCIe slot, the Right side, marked 2, is Gen 3 compatible (see picture below).

For Gen4 SSD I can recommend the new Samsung 990 Evo Plus as this SSD does not require a heatsink up to 2TB, for Gen3 the very reliable Samsung 970 Evo Plus is recommended for this laptop as it has DRAM memory up to 2TB.

I was told that the Gen 4 would not be any faster than a Gen 3 in this computer and is more expensive. Is that info correct?

Puraw…My husband ordered this SSD and hopefully you can tell me if it will fit my Acer: Samsung 990 EVO SSD 1Tb PCie Gen4x4 Gen 5x2 M.2 2280 NVMe Internal Solid State.

Seems to be like the one you recommended but not Plus.

    I appreciate your help.

    Hi,

To determine if either SSD works, check your computer's compatibility:

    1. Motherboard Support: Confirm your motherboard supports NVMe SSDs via an M.2 slot and PCIe Gen 3x4 interface. Refer to your computer's manual or specs online.
    2. Physical Fit: Both are M.2 2280 drives. Ensure your slot supports this size.
    3. Heat Sink Clearance: If space is tight, the heat sink may obstruct installation.

If your computer supports M.2 NVMe Gen 3x4 drives, both options should work. Let me know if you need help finding your computer specs!

    Thanks
