Hi,

I use the ACER Swift Go 14" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7, 1 TB SSD to deliver online lectures using MS Teams.

The screen goes black in the middle of the lecture and I have to perform a hard reset (pressing the Power button down for 10-20 seconds until it shuts down and turning it back on). The fan is quite loud. I am wondering if it's overheating, although it doesn't feel too hot.

I've only been using the laptop for 3 months.

It's always easiest to look your system up if you provide the actual model number… Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like SFG14-xxx-xxxx. Are you sure it's not just going to sleep due to inactivity? Try setting it to wait longer before sleeping… The freeze could be an app running in the background (or even in the foreground :)) that doesn't handle sleep well.

    Hi Billsey,

Thanks for the tip - I'll check the settings.

In the meantime, the serial number is SFG14-41-R064.

Check that the UEFI firmware of your Swift Go SFG14-41 is updated to the latest available version (1.18):

    Hi HavenHorizons

If you're facing a black screen during Teams calls, it could be due to various reasons. Here are some possible solutions that can help:

    • Ensure you are not logged in with multiple sessions like the browser and Teams app simultaneously.
    • Ensure you quit all apps that can use the camera, e.g., Skype, Zoom, etc.
    • Clear your browser cache and cookies at all times.
    • In Teams, click on your profile photo --> Settings --> Enable “Disable GPU hardware acceleration“. Also, disable “Register Teams as the chat app for Office…”
    • In the Task Manager, choose Microsoft Teams from the Apps drop-down menu and click on End Task at the bottom of the screen.
    • Navigate to the system tray and right-click on the MS Teams icon. Then click on ‘quit’ in the pop-up menu. Open up MS Teams again.

    I hope this helps!

If you are having issues with the laptop, either hardware or software, updating the BIOS is not recommended! A BIOS update should only be done in a stable system except in those rare cases when the trouble can definitively be traced to something a BIOS update fixes. A failed BIOS update can cause significantly more severe problems, such as a bricked system. In your case we really need to pin down what the cause of your screen going blank is… Did setting the timeout before sleep fix it? If so we can likely assume the issue is with going to sleep and we can work to find out what doesn't like that sleep state.

    @HavenHorizons,

Use the Reliability Monitor tool to obtain more details about errors are occurring:

Press Win + R (Run), type perfmon /rel [Enter].

When status screen viewer appears, click on a red flag items (critical events) at each day showed at the bottom of the viewer.

Use double-click on a line item for additional info.

Also click on View all Problem Reports (see bottom link in first screen) to display all problem's reported.
