Hi everyone, have a problem with an external nvme hdd on a thunderbolt 4 port on which i installed win11... the classic win to go... everything works perfectly except when I restart the laptop... it doesn't finish the shutdown procedure and therefore doesn't restart the laptop, have to forcefully shut down... while if start the OS from the internal hdd it restarts without problems... any advice?

Hi, always best to use the Eject icon (Safely remove hardware) on the Taskbar at the right: Safely remove hardware in Windows - Microsoft Support before shutting down.

hi Puraw thanks for the reply….the problem is that the nvme disk has the win11 operating system in use (I don't use the laptop operating system for personal reasons)... can I still use the safely remove hardware even if I have the OS in use?

Sorry, I missed that, no you can't eject a boot drive, probably that function is not available. HDD/SSDs come with software, update the drivers or contact the vendor support/community, the drive, if USB4-TBT compatible, should not hang like that. Have you tried the slower USB3.0 port? What is the boot order in BIOS, is the USB drive listed at the top? Do you have another Windows version installed on the internal drive? Post your question on Elevenforum there are many threads on booting issues with an external drive.

Hi Puraw, after doing some testing can tell you that the problem only occurs on the thunderbolt4 port....on the usb 3.2 ports the external nvme disk works perfectly completing the reboot procedure
