Thanks SergeCa I really appreciate your response. Pleased to hear that it is holding well. I will follow you path to fix mine.

Thanks for chime-in StevenGen. I did contact Acer but they were asking insane amount of money to fix it. I explain to them exactly what I said on this forum but I believe they are trained not to entertain customers even they know it was a crappy design and a manufacturing/engineering error. Honestly I don't have time and energy to fight there are more important things in life :), but I am not buying any Acer product going forward and recommend the same to everyone I know.

    Hello Everyone,

I wanted to provide an update. My repair was completed a week ago and it now looks great and is very sturdy. I made a minor mistake while cutting the carbon fiber sheet, resulting in a small crack that can be repaired (not perfect, as shown in the picture and the blade that I used) with glue. SergeCa deserves all the credit for his work, which I copied completely. Thank you. Here are a few of the pictures. Removing the camera is the most challenging task for me. The edges are not completely perfect because I didn't clean the excess glue, but I am happy with the results.

I bought the following items from Amazon in addition to carbon fiber sheet from AliExpress as mentioned by SergeCa.

That is a great guide AWE64 and it look great, maybe you should provide a carbon mod for laptops lids as a side business 😁 well done and this should be an excellent guide for others of how to solve the lid problem.

    hi @AWE64
good job, congrats. I'm glad that my humble efforts happened to be helpful for you.

I hope that carbon corner is not a complete break off. If it is just a surface delamination then I would put a sort of fancy sticker on it and forget )) If it is a break off then you can try to fill the cavity with that same epoxy resin which you already have. When cured, cover the good surface with masking tape around that area then sand off and smooth out the filling imperfections, etc. Then paint or put a sticker over it.
The excess of glue on the side faces can be removed by an utility knife. But be easy and careful. Some light sanding can help too. You can even paint those areas or cover with some sticky strips, etc if you want it beautiful )

p.s. About a year ago or so my laptop developed a very strange video glitch. I'm not yet sure if it is a Win video driver problem or video adapter. I was trying to remove then install back the video driver but it didn't help. When I watch a video on YouTube or Facebook and scroll it up or down so the video window moves past screen borders partially or fully then sometimes whole screen including text areas and everything else starts to tremble in high frequency. Did someone see such a problem?.. I try to close the browser tab which has that video, but it doesn't help. Only system restart solves that nasty problem.
I hope it is not hardware problem.
I start thinking to get rid of Win10 one day and install a Linux. Just too lazy to move my files and the rest of stuff for now.

    Hi Serge,

Thanks again for your help. These are really great ideas. I appreciate it. However, as you know, the main issue has been addressed, so these are all secondary/optional items that are good to have.
I believe my notebook was upgraded to Windows 11 last year and I recently ran into a video problem (this is not exactly same as you describe). The fonts on a web browser became funny/fuzzy while I was scrolling up/down. I ultimately uninstall and reinstall the video driver. It's been more than a week and I haven't seen this problem again.

I don't think the issue that you are facing is hardware related because if is hardware a reboot will not fix to me it sounds more like software issue. You may try to change the refresh rate and upgrade the BIOS as well if not done already. My notebook is running with latest BIOS and drivers.

    Regards,

    A

If the boot drive is big enough, files don't have to be moved. Just shrink the win10 partition and install Mint alongside on the resulting free space. You have dual boot capability. Plus full access to and open nearly all regular Win files (eg Office suite) from Mint. And can even run many of your favorite 3rd party Win apps/programs (eg I rfanview) with the WINE overlay,
