Acer C24-1600- Network problems, 1Gb broadband installed but cannot connect through the ethernet.

I have an Acer C24-1600. I have recently had 1Gb broadband installed but cannot connect through the ethernet (Wireless is OK). I understood the spec said it would support 1000Mbps but in case it doesn't, I bought a USB 3.0 to Gigabit adapter but could not get the Acer to recognize that either - just says Unidentified Network, No internet access. Can anyone who has a similar machine confirm whether it will accept a 1Gbps connection and, if not, what else I could try.

    Hi @StayinAlive

Please update the drivers from the below link and check the issue is getting resolved.

Thanks. That shows 20 different drivers. Some, like bluetooth not really relevant. Are the any specific ones I should be looking for? And can you just confirm that I should, in theory, be able to connect to a Gigabit service with this model

You can download the LAN driver on the website. For that USB 3.0 to Gigabit adapter, you might need the driver for it.

It's not a driver issue, most likely. Your router needs to be giving out DHCP leases on the wired connections. Bring up Network and Internet settings; Advanced Network; Hardware and connection properties and look at the IPv4 addresses assigned. If the address for your Ethernet connection starts with a 169.254 then you aren't getting a lease from the router. Often setting that up on the router means contacting your ISP, they may have it configured only for wireless…

Thanks billsey. No the IPv4 address starts with 192.168. I'm currently getting around 400 Mbps compared with the 912 Mbps measured by the ISP from their HQ. Just wondering if it would be possible to upgrade any internal hardware and whether that would make any difference.

If you are getting 400Mbps then the Ethernet is working, so we only need to deal with the throughput. Is that correct, or is the 400Mbps though WiFi?

Also, go to the Realtek PCIe FE / GBE / 2.5G / 5G Ethernet Family Controller Software site for the C24-1600 Realtek RTL8111H-CG LAN and download the "Ethernet Diagnostic Program for Win7/Win8/Win10/Win11" maybe that will help you out also, as they have new drivers also for the LAN chip. Good luck.

Download the Ethernet Diagnostic Program for Win7/Win8/Win10/Win11 and do the diagnostics and then see what is wrong, that is what I meant, not download any driver from there.

StevenGen. Can't really see anything the diagnostics to shed a light.

Salient point for me is link status 1000 Mbps which to me suggests I should be able to receive full 1 Gb internet.

Driver ver is 11.15.327.2024 which I presume is the latest

What is your internet plan? Are you using the 1Gbs plan or else?

    Stop Press.

I have found a speed test capability in my router settings and this says Download speed 918 Mbps. If this is to be believed, why is this not reflected in the commercial speed tests on my PC?
