When I push the button to turn on my monitor I see the word Acer dimly. As I push the on/off button the image becomes darker and finally stays on. It takes a lot of buttons pushing to get it to stay on.

leave the monitor on for a few minutes and see if the image becomes darker by itself. maybe this specific monitor is taking time to warm up fully.

The symptom where the display is dark, but the image is barely showing up, is usually due to an issue with the backlight for the display. That can be expensive to fix since the backlights are bonded to the display itself. What monitor do you have? How old is it? Are you still in warranty?

It is a 15 year old Acer monitor. The research I found said it could also be the inverter. But there is no way to test them-just replace it and see if it works. I am not sure where I would find one if I wanted to try it? Certainly considering a new one. Thanks for writing.

15 year old… most probably a CRT or an early generation LCD - they need time to warm up.
