The touchpad of my Aspire E5-475G stopped working after installing a few quality updates from windows. It was fine prior the update. I have Windows 10 by the way.

I have already tried reinstalling the touchpad driver for this model at the Acer's website, but it's still not working. I have also tried updating and uninstalling the HID compliant mouse driver, but to no avail. Touchpad is already set to advanced in the BIOS screen.

I also noticed that the touchpad is not in the settings anymore. What do I do?

Uninstall the recent updates. If you cannot, rollback the system to last known safe state. Let us know if you need help rolling back.

Hi, you Restore the system with an earlier Restore point that is created either by Windows after an update or you can also manually create restore points before changing a setting or install drivers/BIOS. Type Restore in the Search bar and click on "Create a restore point" then click on "System Restore" (see picture) and select a date before the update was installed.

The only data available was a day AFTER the update. I updated it on Sep. 11, but the available data shows Sep. 12.

At this point I'm kinda losing hope and just want to reset my laptop. But will that even fix the problem?

Yes, that can happen if there is insufficient free space on your HDD or if the restore cache is set to a bare minimum (should be set to 10% of free disk space). You can "Reset this PC" without losing your data, yes Reset may fix the Touchpad problem, but you will have to update again and get that problem. Remember this is a 2016 Windows10 laptop with W10 components and drivers, there is a 2018 BIOS version 1.21 that you should install, if you upgraded to Windows11 there may be W11 driver issues, in that case stay on W10.

Uninstalling the recent update didn't help.

Instead, I tried to switch touchpad to basic mode on the BIOS screen and it worked again. Switching to advance stops the touchpad from working. It seems like a problem with the i2c driver. I have it installed but it has a yellow mark (from the device manager) and says "This device cannot start. (Code 10) A request for the HID descriptor failed."

Do you have access to the original driver for the touchpad? If you have that you could install those and disable driver updates via windows update.

If your touchpad isn't working, it may be a result of a missing or out-of-date driver. Updating or reinstalling your touchpad drivers in Device Manager may help solve the problem. To open Device Manager, enter device manager in Search on the taskbar, then select Device Manager.
Press Win + I keys to open the Settings window and select Devices. Step 2. Select Touchpad from the left panel, scroll down the right-side bar to the Reset your touchpad section, and click on Reset. Then confirm the option to reset the touchpad settings.
