Acer Aspire 1 A115-31-COVY, with 4GB installed RAM. Am I able to increase that RAM to 8GB?

I have an ACER Aspire 1, A115-31-COVY, with 4GB installed RAM. Am I able to increase that RAM to 8GB?

    Yes, you have 4GB onboard memory and a slot to upgrade, you can install 4GB DDR4 2400MHz module in the slot.

    The info above comes from the official dated: 2019-05-14 Acer A115-31 laptops SG, and yes the SG is the official Acer service guide for the Acer Aspire 1 A115-31 but you have to appreciate that Acer’s service guides DO NOT specify a specific model like your “COVY” as that part of the model number specifically refers to your Aspire 1 A115-31-COVY A115-31 laptop specs that Acer fitted specifically to the COVY model and I don’t have that information as Acer does not specify that exactly but Acer would not change the mobo specifically for your COVY model, they might not include a removable provision with a ram module or a space for an M.2 SSD drive and have just onboard soldered ram and a 64 GB eMMC soldered drive also and this version of the A115-31 can't be upgraded.

    This is what Acer shows that the A115-31 laptop looks like after you remove the 10 screw of the lower case in its SG

    Open a CMD/command prompt window and enter the following command:

    wmic memphysical get maxcapacity

    This will display the maximum RAM your computer can handle, but it will display in kilobytes. You'll need to convert it to GB.

    So, let's say it tells you that your maximum RAM is 16777216…

    That would mean that your computer can handle a maximum of 16GB of RAM.

    If you have two RAM slots, you could upgrade to two 8GB modules.

    Thanks for the responses, very quick and helpful.

    I could not find in any document where it states there is an additional slot for another 4gb of memory. I thought I would need to disassemble the unit to determine that. Where was that info found? What is SG? Service Guide?

    So I presume when I do disassemble the unit, the slot will be empty, and I can install another 4gb of memory, correct?

    Thanks for the info, very helpful.

    The MaxCapacity is 12582912, presumably 12GB. Since the laptop already has 4GB, I presumably could add another 8GB, super.

    Yes, your computer maxes out at 12GB RAM capacity.

    You can put in one 4GB module and one 8GB module to maximize your capability in this area.
