Won't boot. Keyboard light on. No screen. SF314-512-52MZ

This problem just began today. After powering on, I get keyboard light, but no screen and no other signs of life.

I researched and found some advice to use the battery reset button on the back. The machine will attempt to boot after holding the battery reset button, but after about 30 seconds, the screen glitches and then goes black (but still backlit). I got exactly the same behavior when I booted into the BIOS menu. I was going to disable fast boot, but before I saved and exited, the screen went black and the fans started running at about half speed.

If this happens even in BIOS, I guess it must be hardware?

Pretty much yes. If it happens when in the BIOS it can't be an issue with the OS, since the OS hasn't tried to load yet. :(

After resting all night, it was able to boot again. Based on advice I've found here, I still implemented two fixes that might help.

    • Disable fast boot in the BIOS
    • Turn off modern standby in Windows

I've had another random shutdown trying to resume from sleep since then. Does Acer provide boot-time hardware diagnostics like Dell's? I couldn't find anything in BIOS.

Further testing today shows that the machine is unable to resume from S3 sleep. Reboots instead. However, I'm at least able to boot into Windows. I'm at a loss for further troubleshooting steps here.

All the symptoms that you are getting with your Swift SF314-512 laptop is from its EC chip that freezes and its programmed commands do not execute fully, the only way to fully solve this issue of this chip or the chipset chip that regulate the booting process and many more functions of your laptop, is to do a Hard Reset as that usually fixes this problem especially on a 2022 and a newish laptop like your Swift SF314-512 model, if this reset doesn’t fix the issue completely, then you need to take your laptop to a technician as the chip needs to be changed and reprogrammed or you have other issues that are causing this problem that need analyzing, as its a hardware problem and resets won't fix anything and could damage your latop.

Hard Reset of the Swift SF314-512 laptop do this:

Unscrew the ten (10) screws on the back cover of your SF314-512 laptop, then starting from the bottom right side, pry to release the latches, continue releasing the remaining latches to remove the lower case. Then take the main battery out and disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then short the RTC/BIOS battery + & - pins at the mainboard plug to reset the laptops CMOS, leave the laptop like that for at least 1 hour (preferably overnight) and then reconnect everything as afterwards the laptop should boot correctly, and you shouldn't have any more problems

Thanks! I'm feeling better about having next steps and I can definitely try this. It might take several days, though, because I don't have mini Torx drivers with me at the moment. Will have to acquire them before I can open the case.

Good and glad to help you out, yes those toque screws on the Swift back cover are a bit of a pain 😁but try the hard reset first as it could be the EC or Chipset chips that are freezing like I've suggested above as this worked for my Nitro 5 like and into one year of ownership of my laptop and like you are experiencing with your Swift laptop and the hard reset fixed this isssue.
