Can I set a screen lock timeout on CB515-1W Chromebook to dim the display 5 seconds before it locks?

I like the way that my CB515-1W Chromebook automatically locks after a period of inactivity. But it is annoying that I get no warning before this happens.

Is it possible to configure the display to automatically dim the brightness about 5 seconds before the screen is locked?

This would allow me to interrupt the locking process if I am currently reading something on the screen, but not actively interacting with the Chromebook.

Do these steps in Win-11 to change the sleep mode settings, as you can't change the dim period before it goes to sleep, the below settings are the only settings that you can change:

    1. Open Settings:
      • Click on the Start menu and select Settings (the gear icon).
    2. Go to System Settings:
      • In the Settings window, click on System.
    3. Access Power & Sleep Settings:
      • In the System settings, select Power & sleep from the left-hand menu.
    4. Adjust Sleep Settings:
      • Under the Sleep section, you can set the time for your laptop to go to sleep when it’s on battery power and when it’s plugged in. You can choose different times or select Never if you don’t want it to sleep automatically.
    5. Save Changes:
      • Once you’ve made your adjustments, simply close the Settings window. Your changes will be saved automatically.

I see that I was not clear enough in my initial post: I am running ChromeOS version 128 on my Chromebook.

And if I translate your Windows 11 instructions to similar steps for ChromeOS, I end up disabling the screen lock which is not what I want to do.

As I said, I like the screen lock. I would just prefer if I got 5 seconds warning (e.g. by the screen brightness dimming, as is normal on other operating systems) before the screen automatically locks.

If you follow this link to the ChromeBook CB515-1W Acer Support page that you quoted as your model laptop was, Acer has a Win-11 OS (which could be a mistake) that is what I looked at quickly, that is what I went by. Sorry I don't use Chrome OS and have no idea how to reset the sleep mode and/or the dip screen time, my expertise is windows, maybe another community member can help you out. Good luck.

I think their support page just default to showing the OS of the system you are on, not the system you searched for if that doesn't have OS drivers. Since Chromebooks don't have drivers per se it just shows you your own OS version, with no drivers listed.
