Acer R240HY Monitor (7 yrs old) won't connect with Acer Helios Predator 300 Laptop

I've tried, the display port connection, the hdmi connection and I've tried the VGA connection (uising a multi-port hub). Nothing seems to work.

The monitor is perfectly fine and it works with another laptop (ThinkPad p14 Gen 2), using the VGA port


Can anyone give me an assist on this issue?

    What is the Predator Helios 300 model that you are trying to connect this monitor to as that laptop should be a model like a PH315-xx or similar, as and if the monitor works on another laptop then it should work on your Predator Helios 300 gaming laptop too, as the Predator laptops has a HDMI port and a mini DP port and even a Thunderbolt port (which you can connect to also) that you can connect this monitor to. You must be doing something wrong or using the wrong cable to connect to the Predator laptop. Check the below troubleshooter chart and take the appropriate actions. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

    Hi Steven,

    THNXS for responding man, it's very much appreciated

    It's frustrating because as you said, there's no technical reason why the monitor wouldn't work with my laptop (which by the way is a PH315-53 model)

    I'm attaching a couple snaps below showing the connection options I've tried (or am in the processes of trying). Connection Options 1 and 2 I've tried with no luck. For the latter two I'm waiting on delivery from AMZN later today

    p.s. Yeah, I know… This might be a bit obssesive and overkill to have all the 4 options but I get obsessive at times when confronted with a semmingly simple technical issue that bedevils me :)

    Try to reinstall the Nvidia GPU driver on the Predator Helios 300.

    1. Using a HDMI to DisplayPort connector, I do see that the system recognises the Acer R240HY monitor. (See attached screenshot). This may also be the case for the other Connection Options I mentioned above; I just hadn't checked before now

      That said, I still get a "Cable Not Connected" msg on the monitor.
    2. My Predator has a: Graphics Controller Model: GeForce® RTX™ 3060. So which of the following drivers should I look to re-install (see screenshot taken from My (Acer) Product Support Page for my laptop
    3. Last point (FYI), I just recently (a few days ago) upgraded the GeForce driver on my laptop (I have the auto-update set). See screenshot for the GeForce settings as well

    Use the HDMI to HDMI cable. Connect the monitor to the laptop HDMI port, then power the monitor up. Once it's past the splash screen, hit Windows-P and choose extend. That should give you a display and you can use the display settings to select the correct resolution and scaling.

    @billsey: I tried your suggestion and was able to get to the option for Extending the display. However, still no love because the monitor (still) refuses to see that a cable is connected to the laptop. I keep getting the persistent "Cable Not Connected" message on the monitor

    Arrrgghhhh…

    Are you sure the HDMI cable is working? That message typically is shown when the cable is disconnected or has issues internally.

    @billsey: I'm pretty sure the cable is working. I get the same message with all the other cables as well. (As an aside, I literally just bought all the cables off AMZN)

    As of right now, the only cable that works is an old VGA cable connected to the ThinkPad via a multi-port hub. And even when I use that cable and that same hub with the Predator, I still get no love. It's maddening

    I'm thinking at this point that @AnhEZ28  suggestion of re-installing the Nvidia GPU driver on the Predator Helios 300 may be the way to go. And in that case, I wanted to confirm which of the available drivers I should look to re-install

    Can you make a recommendation from the attached screenshot?

    @billsey, @AnhEZ28: Both of your suggestions regarding installation of the NVIDIA driver did the trick.

    Specifically, I did 2 things:

    1. Installed the NVIDIA VGA Driver (RTX 3080).
    2. Initially I got the same frustrating results but while tinkering around trying to figure out, what the hell… I accidentally hit one of the buttons on the monitor which displayed Input options. I quickly chose the HDMI option and voilà… SUCCESS!!!
      (I guess technically this could've been the sole soultion from day one but I'm a goofball)
    3. Then flexing my new-found skills (don't laugh), I also connected the ThinkPad via the VGA ports and now I can seemlessly switch between the Predator and the ThinkPad. Cool!
