I have the acer n50-610 gaming pc with a 10400f and a 1650, I was wondering if it was safe to use the NvStrapsReBar to force enable ReBar on my gpu.

  • Using tools like NvStrapsReBar to enable Resizable BAR (ReBar) support on your GPU can potentially improve performance, but it's essential to proceed with caution. Here are some considerations:

    1. Compatibility: Ensure that your motherboard BIOS and GPU firmware support ReBar. ReBar is a feature that requires support from both the motherboard and the GPU.
    2. Risk: Modifying GPU settings with unofficial tools can carry risks, including system instability or potential damage to hardware. Make sure you understand the risks and have a backup plan if something goes wrong.
    3. Backup: Before making any changes, it's a good idea to back up important data and create a system restore point or have a recovery plan in place.
    4. Driver and BIOS Updates: Check for the latest BIOS updates for your motherboard and the latest drivers for your GPU, as these may include official support for ReBar without needing third-party tools.
    5. Community Feedback: Look for feedback from other users who have tried using NvStrapsReBar with similar hardware to see if they experienced any issues.

In summary, while it can be safe if done correctly, using third-party tools always involves some risk. Ensure compatibility, follow instructions carefully, and consider official updates or support channels as a first step.

Just want to confirm, just because this is a prebuilt PC and has a locked bios, it most likely won't be an issue? Thanks

  • locked BIOS on a pre-built gaming PC is unlikely to cause any major inconveniences for most users. The main limitations are around advanced BIOS modifications and fresh Windows installs.

    Key Considerations

    1. Compatibility: The GTX 1650 is a Turing architecture GPU, but it is not officially supported for Resizable BAR (ReBAR) by NVIDIA. The NvStrapsReBar tool is primarily designed for RTX 2000 series GPUs. While it might technically enable ReBAR on your GTX 1650, there are no guarantees that it will work effectively or safely.
    2. Locked BIOS: Since your Acer N50-610 has a locked BIOS, you may not be able to change settings that are necessary for enabling ReBAR through traditional means. This adds an additional layer of uncertainty regarding the effectiveness of the tool.
    3. Potential Risks: Using unofficial tools like NvStrapsReBar can lead to:
      • System Instability: You may experience crashes or performance issues.
      • Driver Conflicts: There could be conflicts with NVIDIA drivers, leading to further complications.
      • Hardware Damage: Although unlikely, there is a potential risk of damaging your GPU or other components.

    Conclusion

While it is technically possible to use the NvStrapsReBar tool on your GTX 1650, it comes with risks and uncertainties. If you are comfortable with these risks and have done your research, you can try it, but proceed with caution and be prepared for possible issues. If you prefer stability and reliability, it might be best to Avoid this.
