My BIOS Does Not recognize RAM on my Aspire TC-885.

I just added an additional 8GB of RAM to my Aspire TC-885. It had 8gb already and the new card it exactly the same specs (DDR4, 2666, Etc). After several attempts of removing and reinstalling the new card, the BIOS still does not recognize it and only shows 8gb there and in Windows. My BIOS is up to date according to the Acer tools. How can I get the BIOS to recognize the new addition? Thanks

What happens if you just install the new RAM unit ??

Either way look for bent or pulled out pins and broken/cracked ram.

I thought about just installing the new one after I posted this. I will try that tomorrow when I have time. Thanks for your reply.

OK. I tried the PC with just the new memory card only and it worked fine. Then I put the old one in next to it, double checked the locking tabs and I still get only 8gb for memory instead of 16. I just wonder if there is something i can do to force a reading of the other memory slot by the bios.

Here's the specs for loading modules:

So two 8GB modules should have no issue, since you can't really get them backwards.

Sometimes the slots are numbered and not 1234 but oddly numbered.

So look carefully or post a picture,

OOPS does it have 2 or 4 ram slots ?

If only 2 then there's no way to mess them up ?

Look in your Windows System info and see if 16Gb is showing ?

I only have 2 slots for ram on the motherboard and I never mix size on Ram. I always install it in pairs. The 8gb card was the original to the pc.

I also have been checking the windows stats everytime I make a change. The memory is still listed at only 8gb.
I would love to find out there is a Windows 11 setting to correct this and the bios doesn’t matter.
My SSD memory/drive doesn’t show in the Bios but I got it to work. Maybe this can be the same.

I have an SSD that i have the virtual memory pointed to. So, that is already handled. I wish there was a simple way like this to add the RAM. But, thanks for looking.

If both sticks work in the first slot by themselves, and neither stick is recognized in the second slot, the only thing I can think of is a problem with that second slot. Maybe dirty or bent contacts?

    Great news

Some times those contacts get gummy.

I use a pencil eraser on the RAM contacts. DeOxit Cleaner works OK (or alcohol) and let dry after applying with Q-tip. But if it's working, don't mess with it.
