Acer Predator PH315-53 with constant massive performance failure

Hi, I have an Acer Predator PH 315-53 that I bought in December 2021 and it worked perfectly until mid 2023, when it started playing every game below 30 FPS on the exact same settings that it used to run over 120 FPS at. This kept happening no matter how many times I updated or rolled back the drivers and no matter how many times I took the whole laptop apart and cleaned the fans and even re-pasted the CPU. My temps all became great, but the problems continued. All the things I did to try to fix the problem stopped working gradually, from turning on turbo mode to disabling the ACC services to using Throttlestop. Nothing at all worked. Last month, I even wiped the whole PC and performed a new clean install of Windows and that didn't fix the issue either. Randomly, it started working about a week and a half ago, and today when I turned it on it was back to the same *****. Every game will be below 30 FPS on the settings that used to give 120+, and the PC will give no indication that anything is wrong and the games will still recommend settings that the machine literally cannot run them at for some unknown reason.

Anyone encountered these problems before and know of any solutions?

You can't rollback the PH315-53 laptops last 2.04 bios, the only thing that you can do and as you have the last bios 2.04 installed, is that you need to update the gpu firmware to version : v101a “Update Nvidia discrete VGA VBIOS and improve performance” as this will improve the NVidia gpu performance. I would also install the Win-11 Home / version: 23H2 / OS build: 22631.4037 (which is the latest build) on this laptop and not run it with the old Win-10 as that could improve performance with this laptops 10th Gen Intel cpu / that should have at least 16GB total RAM at 2x 8GB DDR4-3200MT/s CL 22 type ram and a PCIe3x4 M.2 SSD boot drive which is perfect for Win-11 version 23H2 OS to operate with very speedily.

The Predator Helios 300 PH315-53 laptop was released on and around 2020/12/11 and its only fairly new. For this laptop to operate at its peak performance, you have to make sure that you have the windows OS updated always, and also install the NVidia GeForce Experience software and download the latest NVidia gpu driver through this software and play all games through this software's settings, as having windows up to date, bios, firmware, NVidia and Intel drivers all updated will make your laptop operate at its best performance, otherwise your laptop has hardware problems like from its DDR4-3200MT/S CL22 type ram modules or its power source like battery or main power rail that could be faulty and the laptop is only getting partial power reducing performance, or its PCIe Gen.3x4 M.2 SSD boot drive that could be faulty and running slow, as all these components have to be inspected and changed accordingly if there are any faults. If you can't do all the above, get a good technician to do all this for you as the techs that you have been taking your laptop to are not doing their jobs properly. Hope this helps you out further

Have you updated the bios to the last bios version 2.04 "1. Update GPU VRAM over temperature protection and also update the firmware that the PH315-53 has as this is all essential for this laptops gpu to work properly. Go to the PH315-53 Acer support page and download the bios and firmware's for this laptop. Otherwise your laptop has problems with its cpu and gpu that you need to take your laptop to a technician to check and fix the appropriate faults of why your laptop is not performing to its peak specs.

Hi Steven, thanks for your reply.

I downloaded the last BIOS and I get the message "The version of ROM file is the same as that of BIOS." I did notice I already had 2.04 installed, but figured perhaps I didn't have the latest revision. It isn't letting me download anything new or anything like that. Should I revert to an older BIOS version and then back to the newest? I've taken this laptop to be serviced like four times in the time I've owned it, and nothing ever provided a permanent solution. Since this seems to be another dead end, and I've updated and rolled back drivers and tweaked control panel and system configuration settings and only gotten temporary fixes, I think it's time I try to get a different computer. This one has been too broken for too long.

Steven, you are a lifesaver, honestly. I downloaded and installed the latest firmware and found later Intel integrated GPU drivers than the ones I thought were the newest. I had a 2022 version and found one from 2024 by scrounging around. I re-installed the newest Nvidia drivers for my GPU and I already had the latest Windows 11 version. As of right now, having used it since last night, everything is great!

Thank you so much for all your help. <3 (I will still be putting this thing up for sale and getting a new PC once I move apartments lol)
