PH16-71: Why is display mode changing on its own even though I have selected dGPU in BIOS?

So I got this acer predator helios neo 16 few months back and faced an issue for the first time where my laptop won't turn on instantly when I press the power button but after a minute or two when keyboard light blinks for 3 4 times it will turn on but the display mode is switched automatically from Nvidia GPU only to Automatic selection ( Yes I use Nvidia GPU only as my default display mode in BIOS ) .

this happens only when the laptop is booted on from shut down state and this was my second time facing this issue else it turns on normally on Nvidia gpu only display mode

Why is display mode changing on its own even though I have selected discrete gpu in my BIOS ?

It happens everytime you power it on ? if you restart it loads normally ?

No it does not happen everytime , very rarely once in 2 3 weeks . Then again i have to go in bios to change the display mode to DGPU.

I don't know what exactly can cause that , check if it`s set to NVIDIA only in Predator Sense and NVIDIA Control Panel also or you could leave it on Auto and after Windows loads change it to NVIDIA like this :

i have tried this but this method creates dual displays so the best one for me was by turning it on in the bios itself and yeah one more thing the gpu operating option in the predator sense is linked with the bios one so its same as turning on in the sense or bios. can it be that there is some fault in my gpu as it is not responding when i power on the system so then windows shifts to the intel rUHD graphics or advanced optimus for showing up the display , faulty gpu ?

or is it some bug related to the Nvidia drivers ? coz its been only few times when this thing happens when i turn on and display mode changes on its own in the bios too otherwise it just boots up normally with DGPU as display mode but the thing my laptop is new and its kinda scary for me to see weird things happen for no reason randomly . what should i do the thing is i cant even ask or contact customer service as this issue is not occurring everytime its like once or twice in a month it boots up with different display mode. THANKS BTW (T-T)

Yep , i know Predator Sense is the same as the one in BIOS , i was thinking maybe it was "bugged" or something and was staying on iGPU . Maybe the Fast Start-Up option is not saving Predator Sense`s settings correctly ? and it loads default on Auto , you could try disabling fast start-up and also reinstall iGPU and clean install NVIDIA , nothing else i can think of . iGPU`s are very annoying combined with GPUs especially on laptops .

Make sure that you have the last PHN16-71 models bios version 1.16 installed and the firmware version v61507100 to “Enhance storage performance” and also make sure that you download the latest NVIDIA game ready driver for your gpu through the GeForce Experience software that also has the essential and best settings for all games for your RTX gpu, as all these software’s are a must install for your laptop to work 100% and efficiently.

You also have to realise that these new Acer gaming laptops have new software are buggy and you need to check their settings and if needed, always reset them, you have to remember that the laptop is set to automatically switch between the Intel iGPU and for more intense graphics it switches to the NVIDIA dGPU, you are lucky that when you set your laptop to work only with the NVIDIA dGPU it lasts that long, as and if you set the NVIDIA Control Panel for the NVIDA gpu only and you also set the bios the same way and also set the Laptop Display Mode Settings the same, then the setting should stay that way permanently, but and like with the Predator Sense software for these new laptops, the Acer software is unfortunately buggy and resets to the automatic gpu mode that changes these settings, so you need to wait until Acer updates and streamlines these new software(s) and releases a new dGPU firmware and/or a new bios to fix all these bugs. Be patient as all this will be solved in future Acer updates. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thankyou so much mate, appreciate you a lot. So should i worry about my hardware like is anything wrong with my gpu ? or laptop?

I don't think there is enough evidence to consider a hardware problem , i would say it`s more related to Predator Sense / NVIDIA (software part) .

Maybe i`m wrong but the laptop model is PH16-71(it was released last year) , not PHN nor 16-72(this year`s model) , so we can't talk about "new buggy software" anymore , not blaming you ofcourse 😅 .

Remove it from Control Panel and install it again or just click the installer maybe it has an option to reinstall .
