Is the game using the Nvidia GPU ? (if not it will put more heat on the CPU) i recommend keeping the profile on performance mode (lower seems to keep the fans too quiet/slow) . Mine never reached more than 85 C even with higher room temps but i always used performance mode and switched to Nvidia only (at least when playing games) , also keeping it above a laptop cooler (more to lift the laptop off the desk so it can drag in more air .
Recently got the Predator PH18-72, Cpu high temperature when idle.
Recently got the Predator PH18-72, cpu temps on the i9 are reaching 80c even when task manager shows usage between 1 and 7% . Fans are working fine . I played No man's Sky on balance profile just walking round a planet and temps reached 100c after just 5 minutes.
I did update the bios from 1.6 to 1.8 (which mentions update to the microcode) and unless its my imagination the higher temps were noticeable after the bios update. I even reinstalled windows, but it made no difference. Should I return it while I still can? The ambient room temperature was about 26c whilst I was getting these temps.

What Bios are you on?

If you have the same laptop what bios are you on?

I did try just selecting the dedicated gpu 4080rtx and the temps on the cpu didn't seem to go above 85c according to predator sense...but I've seen some cores hit 100c through hwinfo . Does disabling the igpu help with temps? Not sure what the difference is between optimus and auto select?
I've come from my trusty old (10 years!) Asus gaming laptop that has seen me through reliably for all that time. That has i7 ivy Bridge which I think is 6 cores topping off at 3.3 ghz. Perhaps I'm not used to modern processors like the i9 14000? I just worry when I see some cores reaching 95% peaks when just on windows desktop with just taskmanager running? Is that normal behaviour?

Same model(14900HX and 4090) BIOS latest version 1.08 , haven't tested the one that was already installed , i usually do a fresh format/install and update BIOS whenever i buy something new .
Not using the iGPU does help the CPU temp (since it has less work to do) . I`m not sure about the difference of Auto vs Optimus , seems like Auto turns on the GPU when needed(games, etc) while Optimus does the same but with Power Saving ? looks the same to me (Auto/Optimus) . I power/shutdown mine on Auto and switch to GPU after Windows loads , i do it like this because of the screen brightness , if there was no brightness difference i would just use GPU Only .Same here , used laptops from 2 to 24 (cores) , temperatures back then where like 37-40 C on standby and now with this one reaching 60+ C . I don't know much about tools showing core temperatures and how accurate they perform so i can't says if that's normal or not .
Laptop brands should start switching to liquid cooling at least on models like this one with high-end components .0 -
Hello.
I just bought this laptop and I saw that there is a new version of BIOS and I would like to install it. Since it has two SSDs in RAID 0, what would happen if I update the BIOS? Do I go into the reboot to set Load system Defaults as recommended? Do I have to do it from Windows or is there another way? I am afraid of losing the RAID configuration and the consequent loss of the system.
I would appreciate it if you could tell me the process of how you did it.
Regards.

You mean it has two partitions on one SSD connected to SLOT 1(RAID 0) ,not two SSDs . Why would you think you`re going to lose the "RAID configuration"(whatever you mean with that) and system ?
Download and install it , nothing special .. just keep the laptop plugged and don't turn it off untill it finishes , it will restart by itself and will finish when Windows starts up again .
With faith and confidence , cheers .😂0 -
According to the specifications, it comes with 2 SSDs of 1 TB each mounted in Raid 0 so that they are a single unit: Storage 2x SK Hynix HFS001TEJ9X115N (RAID 0), 2048 GB, NVMe-SSDs, two M.2-slots (both in use)

Ok , never heard of that before nor what is used for(but i do think it is possible with some Windows or other tools) , i don't remember something in BIOS related to that so it shouldn't affect it . If you want to be more assured you can make a new post with it , maybe others will know more .
BTW i was confusing Disk 0 with RAID 0 , my bad .

Mate can you create a new thread about this instead of hijacking this one which is about cpu temps not Raid.
BTW I updated the bios and it didn't change anything with the ssd it was still 1.9 tb

The topic is already open but I was asking the forum member FrEaZeR who had done it.

You probably need to apply new thermal paste, clean fans, air vents. I can provide steps to that if you think you can do it by yourself

Thanks but I don't expect to do that on a brand new unit...clean fans!?! Are you kidding only had the unit a couple of days when I first posted and I don't live in a haunted house! (Cobwebs, dust etc)

oh I see. SO, Did you update your gpu driver and windows? Is it under return and replacement policy?
