Swift X mic detection malfunctioning

My laptop can do output to headphones and audio mixing software and all that fine. The output is great. However, when I plug in headphones (which I am very sure have a mic) the laptop doesn't detect my headset mic. I can use a mic because it has a built in mic that works okay but recently it's been really bugging me. No microphone other than the built in one will appear and I can't use my headset mic. Is this a known problem? Are there any well-known or easy fixes? I have had the laptop for several months so returning it is likely not going to go well.

Make sure the headset plug is MS compatible (4 rings, see picture), when you plug in the jack select Headset in the popup, if you don't see a popup "What are you inserting" windows has not detected your headset and mic. You have to repeat the headset selection in Realtek Audio Console.

When you first plug a device into the jack, the system is supposed to ask what you plugged in. If you answer 'headphone' instead of 'headset' it disables the mic function. I believe if you launch the audio utility you can either remove the device so it asks again when you next plug it in or change the device type.

@billsey there is no pop-up or anything talking about something being plugged in. Is there a place it might be getting minimized to? When i check my notifications there is nothing about new audio or anything related to this.

You need to get the latest version, uninstall the Realtek Audio Console in Windows "Add and remove programs", click on the 3 dots at the right and uninstall. Go online to the Windows Store and download RTK Audio Control: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/app/9p2b8mcsvpln
