Predator po5-650 crashing when gaming

hello all, I’ve got this predator po5-650 that I bought in February 2024. Around may-June I started crashing while gaming and in event viewer it just comes with metadata staging failed errors

I used the warranty twice now and they replaced mobo and ram but I swapped the gpu and it worked with a lower gpu than my 4070. Just wondering what I should do, do I buy another 4070 I could care less about warranty or is this a windows error? I factory reset multiple times and reset bios and ddu’d drivers a million times over. Thanks

Try to get the PO5-650 desktop software fully up to date, and also make sure that you have the last bios version R01-A3 and the firmware version V003 installed, make sure that all Win-11 updates are installed also and that includes the windows update > advanced options > optional updates as there could be a firmware or bios update there that is essential that the windows OS operates properly that Microsoft released for this desktop.

Make sure that you have the GeForce Experience software installed that downloads the latest Nvidia game ready driver for your GPU and also make sure to have the Intel® Driver & Support Assistant so that all the Intel drivers are installed and are all up to date. As doing all the above could narrow that your oem RTX4070 GPU is faulty, have you had the RTX 4070 checked by Acer? As and if your desktop doesn’t crash with an RTX30xx GPU then the RTX4070 is the reason why its crashing, or you might even have a faulty PSU that needs investigating or changing, send your desktop back to Acer as this should not be happening with a new high end spec desktop like the PO5-650.

Just for your guide, the below list of GPUs from the PO5-650 service guide are the GPUs that Acer fits as oem to this desktop, get Acer to replace your faulty RTX4070 GPU and if you want to swap the GPU then do so with the GPUs below. Good luck and hope this helps you out

so I’m in bios and I see “ec firmware version 1.0”

    Build date 09/16/2022

I’m assuming this is the firmware you are speaking of and how do I go about updating it

You have the latest bios version R01-A3 installed so you don’t need to update that, The firmware is for the “TypeC PDFW_V003” which refers to the firmware related to the USB Type-C functionality on your desktop, which is not really important but useful to update. With this firmware you need to download the firmware file and it should have instructions of how to install the firmware, be careful as if you don’t know how to update a firmware or a bios I suggest that you get an experienced technician to this for you of Acer tech support.

Make sure that you have all the other software like Nvidia graphics and Intel and windows update up to date like I’ve described above, and see if your desktop works better and doesn’t crash. As imo I recon that its your GPU that is why your desktop crashes and its faulty.

sounds good. And those are just any 4070 ti cards I could try out? Was thinking of going to store tomorrow and getting one to test and see. If it works probably will just keep

was thinking about a gigabyte 4070ti since that was the gpu that worked with my computer except 3000 series

The top of the range gpu that Acer fits oem to the PO5-650 desktop is the RTX4080 16GB 24000Mhz gpu as that will give you balance performance with either the i5-13400F or the i7-13700F cpu's that your model of PO5-650 has, the Gigabyte gpu's are a good performing gpu so see which RTX4080 or RTX4070 is within your budget, good luck.and hope things work out for you.

When you say "crashing while gaming" do you mean it gives you a blue screen or does the game just crash without restarting the OS? If you are getting a blue screen then there is a lot more detail about the crash available than Event Viewer will show.

it would black screen, make windows disconnecting sound and can’t do nothing unless power off, seems to be I fixed it I put a 4070 ti super in it and it’s running perfectly. At least I’ll have it when I build a pc

Disconnecting sound? Interesting. Never had that one happen to me. I take that Windows has been reinstalled many times now since the mobo has been replaced.

Time for some old school stuff.

Monitor CPU and GPU temps while gaming and see if temps cause the crash. If temps are okay (no throttling etc.) try using only one RAM stick at a time. Is the PC still crashing? If so, time to try another PSU.

That sounds like it definitely an issue with the GPU then, it's tough to have one disconnect without moving the card in the slot unless there's something seriously wrong with it…
