My touchpad is not working. When I turn the laptop on, an icon is briefly displayed that shows a touchpad with a red circle with a line through it in the lower left corner. I've tried installing the latest driver on Acer's page of drivers for my laptop, but at the top of the list of drivers, it says "Before you install the touchpad driver, first install the serial I/O driver." But there is no serial I/O driver on that page and I have not been able to find one by searching. Anyone know how to resolve this?
My laptop is a Swift X14-41G.
[Edited the topic title to include model number]
First of all, are you sure you don't just have the touchpad turned off? On the SFX14-41G models the F7 (or Fn-F7 if media keys are off) toggles the touchpad. If you have it turned off it will act as you are seeing, regardless of the driver status. :) IIRC the Serial IO drivers are part of the chipset driver package...
Hi beauxeault
What is the full model number of your laptop?
I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊
Full model number = SFX14-41G-R1S6 (could be -R156, but I think it's -R1S6)
You need to enter your device serial number, SNID or model number
Or here:
Thanks, Jajoo, but those links take me to the page of drivers that does not contain a serial I/O driver in the list. Unless it's named something other than "Serial I/O driver."

Bingo, billsey! Man, do I feel stupid now. Thanks for the help.
No need to feel stupid, after all, who reads the User Manual, especially when you have to find it online first. :)
I am having the same problem, the touch pad does not work. I have Acer Aspier A315-24PT-R288. I have tried turning the touch pad on and off in touchpad settings. I have tried uninstalling the driver and re-installing. I have tried the BIOS screen as suggested in another thread however the touch pad is not listed on my BIOS screen as it was in the screen shot from the other user. I have also installed the serial I/O driver and then the touch pad driver with no luck. Any other ideas on how to fix this touch pad issue? It seems like a lot of people are having this problem.
Hello! Access the bios and then press Ctrl+S. Does this option appear?
The A315-24PT models are very different than the Swift X models… Your Aspire has a toggle key to enable and disable the touchpad, F10 or Fn-F10
Hi Billsey! I seem to be having the same problem even though i have numerously presses 'F7' and it appears to not make my mouse work. I tried to download a touchpad driver and the Acer website said I needed to install a Serial I/O. Do you know where I can find that? Thank you in advance!
What model do you have? This thread is for the SFX14-41G model line, not for the A315-24PT.
