hi

I have some Acer predators ( g9-793-79rr ) that are no longer charging . I’ve tried numerous chargers (though a bit unconvinced as Acer sent me the wrong sizes) but now trying to rule out other things.

if the battery is fried would the laptop still operate on the power supply? And would the dc-in light show?
are there any tests or obvious signs on the chips?

The Predator G9793 laptop is an 8 year old laptop and if you still have the original battery inside then its way past due to be replaced, I would also check the charger/adapter too. This laptop uses a 230W adapter and a Li-lon 8 cell 6000mAh battery, so you need to have the exact components below for the laptop to perform properly and to charge properly also.

The G9-793 Battery indicator should show the following if the laptop is charging properly:

    • Charging: The light is amber when the battery is charging.
    • Fully charged: The light is red when plugged in.

If your G9-793s battery DC LED is on amber all the time while the adapter is plugged in, then the battery is not charging, and it needs replacing, best is to do a battery cmd prompt report (if your laptop is working and you can get into the OS?) as this report will tell you the Design Capacity of the battery, the Full Charge Capacity of the battery and if its charging fully and the Cycle Count of your battery.

If you replace the battery and the adapter and the laptop is still not charging then this laptop has issues in its charging power rail that you need to take your laptop to an experienced technician to diagnose and fix as these issues are complex and you will not be able to fix yourself by any resetting of the laptop. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

thanks, the batteries are completely flat now so I can’t get into the OS.

I get no lights when the charger is plugged in . Sounds as though it’s the power rail but seems very coincidental two have failed at exactly the same time.

Best is to take the laptop to a technician and get this laptop diagnosed as after 8 years there could be numerous things that could be wrong with the laptop.
