I would like to install a 2nd SSD in the free M2 (2280) slot. At the end ot the slot there is a hex type connecter (looks like a standoff - without the opening on top to screw in a screw) attacthed to the motherboard.

Can I use that hex nut connector to secure one end of ssd drive or should I remove it completely and use M2 type screw to secure the drive?

Also, where can I find a motherboard layout? I founf the P03-630, but can not bseem to find the 650.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

You need the standoff to insert the screw, so leave it as it is and when you attach the new SSD, secure with a screw on it.

19 and 30 are the slots where M.2 SSD connector is shown in the picture.

The PO3-650 desktop has an M.2 slot SSD1 @ #30 on the layout below which is a PCIe4x4 and an M.2 slot SSD2 @ #19 on the layout below which is a PCIe3x4 and both drives are secured with the screw below. Good luck and hope these captions help you out with adding a 2nd M.2 SSD drive.

This is the PO3-650 Mainboard Layout and where its 2x M.2 SSD drives are that need to be secured with the above screw.

It is an M2x2.5mm screw with a wide head. They are readily available from venues like Amazon for a reasonably low cost. Search for M.2 screw and make sure you get the M2 version.

@brummyfans 2 and @ SteveGen - thanks for your input and layout diagrams.

Just to confirm (newbie ssd jitters I guess)

I am using slot 19 for the 2nd SSD. And in the attached layout I've marked the standoff (in blue) that will remain in place. I was wrong in my first post - upon a closer look - it looks like the standoff can accept a small dia screw - similar to screw described in SteveGen's answer.

I've tried to find the P/N on interwebs - for purchase - to no avail. But I had a bunch of screws from a laptop project and the HDD rail screws are a great fit.

    Thanks again.
