Came with 3200mhz ram, but is locked at 2400 in Aspire TC-1760?

I just wandered down to Best Buy and bought an Aspire TC-1760, which came as advertised with 8GB of 3200mhz RAM. I grabbed a second stick to match, and installed as per normal. As I was putzing around, I discovered that the RAM is throttled to 2400mhz, and the bios doesn't allow you to optimize it. I triple checked both sticks, and they are definitely both 3200mhz, and I even double checked the advertised specs, so what gives? Is there a way to actually utilize the RAM'S native clock speed, or is this just false advertising?

Unfortunately, as I said in my post, the BIOS does not allow you to change the XMP profile, or in fact adjust anything, really. It is a very basic BIOS, with a non-configurable motherboard. The computer is boldly advertised as coming with 3200mhz RAM, so if it is only utilizing 2400mhz, it is either false advertising, or ACER needs to provide a firmware update or some kind of fix for the issue.

You have definitely added an incompatible 1x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz stick of RAM, or added a damaged RAM module hence and why you are getting the combined 2x 8GB DDR4-2400MHz speeds, as and if you added the correct and the same CL and timings of 2x 8GB DDR4 modules of RAM then your "Task Manager would be showing 3200MHz and show that Slots Used will be 2" " and that is where your problems are,

Look at your Task Manager as 2x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz sticks should show like below:

First take the additional new "8GB DDR4-3200MHz" module back and also install CPUz and find out under Memory and SPD sections what specs your Acer OEM 8GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM is and match that exactly, with the exact manufacturer and CL CAS Latency specs fitted into your TC-1760 desktop, which shouldn't be very hard to get, but if you can't get the exact same ram manufacturer then get the same as what is in CPUz Memory section ram, as both of the 8GB modules have to be exactly DDR4-3200MHz.to work ar 3200MHz speed.

As you can see from the TC-1760 desktops Acer SC below for a capacity total of 16GB, you either need 2x 8GB DDR4-3200MHz modules or you need 1x 16GB DDR4-3200MHz type module to populate DIMMs #1 and #2. Best is 2x of the same capacity ram e.g. like 2x 8GB or 2x 16GB as it will run in dual channel, which is a much better setup than single channel for gaming, editing and all computer tasks.

The TC-1760 specs specify the following RAM types and specs from Acer, you can also do a Crucial System Scan as that is also a good h=guide for RAM and SSD upgrade types and for every budget:

Yes, you need to buy real 3200MHz memory, not the cheaper XMP memory. XMP will run at it's base speed unless you have it overclocked, and overclocking is not supported on your system, they've only started enabling XMP profiles on the latest gaming rigs.

Ok, I'm just a little confused. The SYSTEM MEMORY shows two slots that support up to 16G per socket. That is 32G. Just below that it says Support Maximum Memory size is 32G? This is all new to me.

    Aloha,

You are correct, with two slots that support up to 16GB per slot, the maximum memory will be 32GB.
