hello -

i recently purchased an acer chromebook (is there REALLY any other brand? NO!) and i noticed it has a USB-c charging port rather than the small round kind. so naturally this got me really super excited….! 😍

is this USB-c charging port option available on any windows laptop models?

i am looking at a new replacement since my current acer laptop was dropped, and the round power cord plug-in is very loose (also looking for a good excuse to upgrade).

also, do any aspire-5 have an AMD chip? i sorta love AMD (being a former intel employee)

thank you.

There is the 2023 Acer Aspire 5 A515-48M with a Ryzen7 CPU. Most Acer Swift 2023-2024 models only have USB-C charging. There is a promotion: $680 for the 2023 Windows11 2k 14" Swift X SFX14-51G-7003 in a full metal case and very strong steel hinges, 16GB DDR5 4800MHz.

not so great reviews on the A515-48M:

and i thought the internal fan was sorta a thing of the past…?

Most of the newer laptop designs have USB-C charging, at least as an option. It saves on real estate in the design…

Well, that can be debated… :) I find that I often wish I had the port available without needing to switch to battery.

WOW WOW WOW - it turns out my old Acer Swift 3 does USB-C charging. ok maybe i will keep my old Acer Swift 3 and give this new replacement to my wife:

    Acer Swift Edge 16" 4K OLED Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7-7735U - Windows 11 Notebook 16GB RAM 1TB SSD

the charger from the new Swift Edge charges the Swift 3. and there are two little symbols both by the USB-C port and one next to the power port. the little symbols have a long line with three short lines underneath it. maybe that means power?

so next purchase will be a new USB-C charger for my old beloved Swift-3!

Yes, that is the DC power symbol.

Heck, I started with my first computer in the early 80s, so have been around the block a few times myself. :)
