Hi lately for the last 2 weeks my Acer nitro 5 has been suddenly freezing for no apparent reason and then it stays in frozen state for about 5mins and then just turns off. This can happen at any time and regardless of overheating sometimes it freezes 5 min into turning on and other times i can game for hours and no freeze. the things i have tried without succes.

1 removing each ram stick to rule out bad ram.

2 reseating the Nvme drive.

3 unplugged battery terminal and ran off mains power only.

4 tested power brick with multimeter for correct voltage.

5 Full format and reinstall of windows

Finally, i have narrowed it down to the Nvidia graphics card which i believe may be failing because i have now disabled it in dev manager and since then i have left laptop on day and night without any freezing at all. I would appreciate any input as i think the graphics card maybe on its way out.

What is your Nitro 5 exact model number, and have you updated the bios and gpu firmware (if your laptop has one) as that is about the only thing that you can do for a failing NVidia dedicated gpu, also you need to install the latest drivers and playing games within the NVidia GeForce Experience software game settings. Try that and see if it works, otherwise a dedicated gpu can't be fixed hardware wise and you will need to disable the gpu permanently and only use the integrated Intel graphics of your laptop cpu. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

In a new development while the graphics card is still frozen the screen just froze like before once again. Now i am really stumped cant think what else it could be.

Is your laptop the AN515-56 as there is NO AN15-56? Anyway, I've got the same laptop, and my AN515-56 never ever freezes with gaming and/or day to day usage, I've got the latest bios and firmware that is available for this laptop, I'm running the laptop with a SSD1 boot drive of the Samsung 1TB 970 EVO M.2 SSD and a SSD2 slave of 1TB WDSN730 SSD and its ram is at 32GB @ 16GB 2x DDR4-32000MHz CL22 type ram and latest NVidia game ready driver, GeForce Experience software for gaming and my Intel drivers are always kept updated with the
Intel® Driver & Support Assistant. If you do the same your screen or laptop should not freeze but if it does, then you could have either ram problems or the dedicated gpu is faulty, so seek technical help from either Acer or a technician in your area. Good luck.
