I bought a new Aspire 5 A514-56M for the sole purpose of replacing my old laptop. I cloned the old drive and swaped the ssd from the new laptop. For the life of me I can't get it to boot. I have tried just about everything. It does however boot from an external drive. I am able to boot from an HP and Lenovo. Any ideas? Thank you.

If the two laptops don’t have identical hardware you cannot clone the old system to the new drive. You have to copy your files and if the new laptop does not have an OS Clean install Windows11.

Which type of PC did the old OS come from and how did you clone the drive, because if the new A515-56M laptop doesn't boot from a different laptop cloned drive then the clone was done incorrectly or its not compatible with the new Aspire A514-56M laptop drivers. Also be aware that the Aspire A515-56M is a Win-11 ONLY OS laptop and putting a Win-10 OS will cause allot of driver issues which is another reason why a cloned boot drive won't work. Be aware that there is nothing wrong with your Aspire A514-56M laptop its the OS that you are trying to put onto it which is not compatible to the Aspire A514-56M drivers. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

I also have a brand new Lenovo P16 and the cloned drive boots with no problem. I also have a 3 year old HP laptop and the cloned drive boots up from there as well. It is only on the new Aspire 5 A514-56M that it will not boot up. Thank you for the help. I will keep looking for the solution.

Are you sure? As I mentioned the cloned SSD works on an older HP laptop, and a brand new LenovoP16. Thanks!

Yes, I am pretty sure, if motherboards and components of laptops are not 100% compatible you cannot just swap (or cross-clone) drives. The fact it worked in older HP or Lenovo systems does not mean it should work in the latest Acer model laptop with DDR5 RAM and 13th gen i5-1335U CPU.

The Lenovo is brand new latest and greatest i7. I have also cloned a Dell desktop to samsung SSD and installed in another Acer laptop with no problem.
