Hello all,

Newbie to the forum

I have a Nitro 17, Ryzen 7 7840hs, Nvidia 4060, 32gb Ram and Samsung 2tb pro ssd, Win11

My question is twofold,

  1. Is it safe to remove Nitrosense, as it essentially throttles CPU speed and cranks up the fans to a loud level during gaming, there are other ways of controling fan speed and keeping temps under control
  2. ) If it is safe to remove, and I do a backup of windows, and a Ubuntu installation, removing Win 11completely, will Nitrosense stay removed,or will I have to do a bios removal,

Thanks for your guys help,

If it were mine, I'd simply disable NitroSense.

And rather than remove Windows, I'd shrink its partition to about 200GB and install Linux alongside. There are many times, like updating firmware, when is just plain easier and safer to have Windows available. Storage space is so huge and cheap these days that it just doesn't make sense not to have a bootable Windows partition available.

You must also switch from the Intel VMD rst controller to AHCI mode in the BIOS before you try to install ubuntu. (Use Ctrl+S to reveal and disable this hidden VMD option) You must do this while in Windows safe mode so as not to corrupt the Windows partition.

Uninstall your current instance of NitroSense. Then go to this link. Enter your full Nitro17 model number (For example, AN17-41). Then download, install (or re-install) a fresh copy of the latest NitroSense app. Test again

NitroSense is a great app. Not only does it tell you exactly how hot your hardware is running, but it also gives you massive control over how fast your fans are spinning, almost down to the exact rotation speed. It is good to have Nitrosense in order to determine temps , change the thermal profile and it also allows to change the keyboard backlit.
