Samsung EVO 860 SSD not showing up in Acer Nitro 5, AN515-56

This problem is already seen here but I couldn't solve it. I formatted the disk (1T SATA EVO M.2 SSD) using the external case through USB. Then I tried it in both SSD slots and it is not recognized. I have Acer Nitro 5, AN515-56. Where can I check if SATA SSD is supported? Any suggestions? How reliable is it to try to find an adaptor to put it in HDD slot? I don't use it for gaming but for my thesis. Adapters I found are of unknown makers and I need my data safe. Thanx

If you formatted the Samsung EVO 860 SSD externally with a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter cable and then installed the Samsung EVO 860 SSD into your desktop or laptop and connected it, the Samsung EVO 860 SSD should be showing as an offline drive in Disk Management as the drive is not initialized, you need to initialize/format and give this drive a drive letter like for example "D" and use Disk Management so do this:

    1. Right-Click on Start then click on Disk Management
    2. Right-click on the Drive and select the option to create a new partition or volume and follow the instructions.

If you need more of a detailed guide, then read this guide "How to Fix Your USB Drive Not Showing Up on Windows 10 or Windows 11" as it explains it very well. Good luck and hope it helps you out.

The disk is not detected in BIOS, Disk Management nor Samsung Magician software so I can't do anything. Can you tell me which of the two SSD ports should support SATA M.2 SSD?

With the Nitro AN515-56 (which btw I have the same model) you need to make sure that when you installed the 2.5" SATA drive the flat SATA cable is fully inserted into the mainboard SATA plug and the mainboard SATA plug top creamy color clip LOCKS INTO THE BOTTOM to lock the SATA cable for a full 100% connection, as otherwise your new 2.5" Samsung 860 EVO SSD will not be detected or if its half connected the laptop doesn't boot at all.

Unfortunately, on the Nitro AN515-56 this mainboard SATA plug/clip is in awkward position and is a very cheap and nasty plug/clip, its tiny and very awkward to secure the SATA cable into and fix it for an 100% connection. It took me 30 min just to carefully do this as if you force anything you will damage the mainboard SATA plug/clip and its clip or even the SATA flat cable and its pins get damaged, and then you will need to change the SATA plug as you will have no chance of connecting a 2.5" drive, which the only other solution is a new plug, that can only be changed by a technician who has a microscope😀good luck and hope this has helped you out as I know that this is a very frustrating thing, as adding a 2.5" SATA drive to a laptop in the old days was just a plug and play and nothing like it is today.

But direct plug-in for SATA SSD is not supported? People were saying that one of the ports should support both, SATA and NVMe? Do you have a recomendation for 2.5" adapter?
