Acer Aspire A515-55-56HH Won't start after power port replacement

Hello, I have had problems with the power port charging the laptop. I followed a youtube video on how to replace it. Worked perfect for about 3 months and a loose connection happened. I took it apart and one side of the powerport had broken through the solder, I re soldered that side. Put it back together and it won't start. No power lights light up nothing it's dead. Went back through it appears I reconnected everything properly, I unplugged and plugged the battery multiple times and nothing. Wondering if I accidently shorted something? I have no idea, any help appreciated.

I recommend bringing/sending the laptop to Acer Services in your country to check that DC port and motherboard, include the adapter you are using.

Changing any component on a laptop especially a power port with its tiny pins to mainboard traces soldering you need a microscope and micro soldering tools, and experience, you must have not soldered all the pins properly, or the component has shorted out and you need a new power port as these replacement power ports that you are using could be a cheap copy and not like the oem power port. Take the power port out (buy a new power port from a known brand) and clean the power port pins and all the mainboard traces from solder with a desoldering braid solder wick, always use proper and genuine Amtech flux and good quality solder, as all this will give you a perfect job and that is what a good technician will do. Good luck.

This is good advice. I'm just wondering before I order some of this stuff. Is there a way I can test to see if the fault is in the port? Like using a volatge meter? I'm just wondering if I can test to make sure that's the problem and I didn't fry the motherboard.

If you don't know how to do a power port short check, then you should not attempt it as yu have no idea what the components are, its not just a matter of putting a multimeter + prong and the - prog and herring a beep of the short, I know how to do this but I can't advise you in case that you short out other components which I don't want you to do and take responsibility.

You cheapest and best fix is to take your laptop to an expert technician that knows what he is doing, as a power port swap is a very simple job that should not take more than 15min, but it has to be replaced with a known good quality port as allot of the power ports sold today are cheap and nasty and will not last like the oem power port fitted to your laptop. Try www.electronicloop.de and see if they have the port for your A515-55 laptop, as they have reputable parts. Good luck.

Hello, I opened the laptop again and picked around and removed some of the solder, boom it worked, the lights on the side came to live showing there is now power going through. New problem lol, the laptop won't start up. I push the power button and it doesn't turn on. I checked to see if I had everything connected back up correctly and it appears I do.

  • SawHave you checked if the primary voltages are present?

You have to chase the keyboard power key pin and see if the power trace is not shorted or the keyboard power switch is not faulty. You need to trace the pins and see if there is 3.3V going to the keyboard plug at the mainboard, then if you have 3.3V press the power key and see if it goes to zero every time you press the power key. basically that is what you need to do, and then if you have no voltage to the power key then you need to trace the power mainboard traces for shorted circuitries to the main rail. This is a complex thing to do and if you have no experience its best that you take the laptop to a technician that know how these power switches and no power can be fixed.

Ok I will see if I can find a youtube video about this. I live on an island in an extremely rural area. There is no one here that fixes computers. I have a multimeter and a soldering iron. If I can't figure it out I'll just chuck it and buy a new laptop I guess.
