Hi all,

The other day my Acer Nitro 5 Gaming laptop fell out of my backpack and broke some plastic on the back corners. I have noticed that there is a white cable on the back right corner that is ripped in half. I have been only getting 1 or 0 bars of WiFi despite having it show 3 bars available. I think the wire may be a WiFi connector cable but I’m not sure. If anyone knows what that wire does and how to fix it/find a replacement please let me know!

If that is a picture of the lid it will be the antenna wire that got ripped, I recommend bringing the laptop to Acer Services in your country to replace that cable, if you are still able to open the lid normally you can wait getting that fixed.

This is a picture of the top part of the laptop, I’m assuming that’s the “lid”. I have emailed a few pc repair shops but there is no acer services near me. One pc shop told me it would be cheaper to get a WiFi usb adapter but I’m not sure if I trust that.

The MAIN and AUX antennas are connected to the wireless network card through two U.FL connectors labeled “1 AUX” and “2 Main”. The wireless card first receives signals from the antenna connected to the main connector. If the signal is not good, it will get the signal from the antenna connected at the auxiliary connector, that is what the white wire is for. You don’t need to change it or do anything unless it really badly affects your wireless reception, as changing this wire and its antenna sticker is a big job of undoing the screen bezel, taking the screen out and refitting this white AUX antenna wire, its up to you.

No need to go to an Acer Services point you can just ship the laptop with DHL.
