I've just had to replace the 1TB SATA SSD in my Aspire R. Everything seems fine but I've just noticed that in both BIOS and disk management it reports a 128gb drive model:
HFS128G39TND-N210A

From what I've found searching online, it seems that some Acer models have an M.2 drive installed (with this same model type). Is this actually correct?

If so, why and for what is it there? In all the years I've had this laptop I never had any reason to check the disks, so this is a surprise to me and I don't want to mess something up if I format the M.2 drive (or shouldn't I)?
