Acer CB272 No sound, connected to the PC soundcard, but no sound is coming out of the speakers

I bought a 27" Monitor Model CB272 Ebmiprx Serial MMTVTAA002xxxxxxx, connected to the PC soundcard, but no sound is coming out of the speakers, the soundcard output works with the mini speakers I have, but not with the monitor.

I can see the small speakers inside the bottom of the monitor through the grills.

Tested the provided Cable with a Tester but all looks good… what am I doing wrong?

Volume is at max but no sound.

    I found that the audio input jack appears to be ignored if you are using the HDMI input. It seems to work fine with VGA (don't have any DP to test). I think that the monitor assumes that if you are using HDMI the audio signal would be included. That turns out to be a bad assumption in some cases like mine. I am using a video card with only VGA and DVI. I use a DVI to HDMI adapter which gets the video signal to the monitor just fine. However, DVI does not include audio so I usually send that with a separate cable. Unfortunately, the CB272 only selects its sound based on the input port and I have not found any control that overrides that. I would consider this a design defect.

    There should be two audio ports on the back, if your model has speakers. Make sure you are connecting the computer audio to the audio-in, not the audio-out port.

    Yeah, I was aware of that. I plugged in in the IN port, the resistance on each channel is about 1K ohm is that right? Seems a little high.

    If an Acer monitor has no sound, the first step in troubleshooting is to look for if your monitor has built-in speakers.

    Make sure that all cables are firmly connected and that the volume knob of the Acer monitors, if present, is turned up.

    Yes, has speakers see attached.

    No physical volume knob, but at max in monitor's menu.

    Yeah, with sound connected to the audio-in port and the OSD set at maximum volume you should get sounds through the speakers, unless the audio-in sound isn't actually there. Maybe test with something like an MP3 player (assuming you have old tech like that around). Or with a DVD player maybe…

    Well it seems that these monitors are defective, I ordered a replacement from Amazon and behaves the same way. I definitely see the speakers through the grills, I connected different sound sources (soundcard, I pod CD player) none produced any sound at max vol.

    I'm not sending this back, the monitor is great… shame.

    Eventually I will disassemble it and try to fix it, we'll see.

    The MM.TVTAA.002 SKU does show speakers in the FRU list so if you are in the US that's likely the right SKU. Simple question we omitted before, if you are connected to a Windows machine, have you set the sound output to the monitor?

    Hi Billsey,

    Yes, tried not only with the computer (that was connected to small speakers producing sound), but an old Ipod, and a CD player, all confirmed to have sound output with my headset, definitely something is wrong with the monitos(s) audio system. And just to confirm I took a picture of the speaker (above) so it is a monitor with speakers.

    I'm also aware of the two 3mm sockets (input-headset).

    It sounds to me like you have done your due diligence in trying to diagnose the issue. Contact your vendor for a replacement or Acer for warranty repair. It should be working…

    Wow, thanks! You are right, audio comes through the HDMI. This is unfortunate because I have a small amp with a little (sub)woofer and output to left + right speakers which I planned to replace with this monitor to declutter my desk. I'm sure that this could be resolved with an app upgrade, let's see if Acer is listening…
