Hello, I recently got a new monitor, and I have a Helios 300 System Model: Predator PH315-53
I was wondering what the best connecting cable would be, as the monitor supplies a displayport cable which my laptop does not have. Is there an hdmi to hdmi cable that will support high fps and the 165hz of the monitor? I had a spare hdmi to hdmi cable but it is only allowing 144hz and 60fps on the monitor, what would be the best option for this?

Here is the monitor I bought if necessary: https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/asus-24-fhd-165hz-0-5ms-gtg-tn-led-g-sync-gaming-monitor-vg248qg-black/13819627

Your Predator Helios 300 PH315-53 laptop comes oem from Acer with a top refresher rate screen of 240Hz, which is this screen LQ156M1JW09. Your laptops HDMI 2.1 spec port and a 2.1 HDMI cables can handle up to 120 Hz when using 4K resolution and 60 Hz when using 8K resolution. Lower resolutions than 4K can all handle up to 240Hz when using an HDMI 2.1 cable. The Mini DP to the full DP above is a better external monitor connection than the HDMI as its got better resolution/refresher rate output and is what an external monitor is connected with in all desktop gpu computers, so use that.

Your PH31553 laptop has a Mini DP 1.4 port at #4 caption below and at #3 port it has a HDMI (v2.1) port. Your ASUS VG248QG has a full DP 1.2 portand a HDMI (v1.4) port so be aware of that.

Best way to get a 165Hz refresh rate through a mini DP port, you need to ensure that the cable you are using is capable of supporting the required bandwidth. Go to “What DisplayPort Cable Do I Need for 165Hz?”, you can get 165 Hz using a DisplayPort 1.2 or 1.2a cable, DisplayPort 1.3 cable, DisplayPort 1.4 cable, or DisplayPort 2.0 cable. DisplayPort 1.2 and 1.2a cables will output 1440p (2560 x 1440) at 165 Hz, and support 1080p at 240 Hz. DisplayPort 1.3 and 1.4 take it a notch higher to output 1440p at 240 Hz and support 360 Hz at 1080p. HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 also support 165Hz; ensure your monitor and display settings are adjusted to the desired refresh rate for optimal performance

Below are the locations of the two ports that you can connect an external monitor to your PH315-53 laptop but seeing that you have a HDMI cable, and it works, just leave it like it is, but you should be getting a refresher rate of 165Hz from the ASUS VG248QG monitor through the Mini DisplayPort is a 1.4 - that Connects to the external displays port or the HDMI 2.1 port that this laptop has, so try both as they will work. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Mini DP to Full DP end cable

Thanks for the detailed response, a couple questions though. Seeing that my hdmi to hdmi cable is allowing 144 max, is this an issue with the cable or is it because of the ports themselves, if it is a capable which hdmi cable would i need?
My other question is that you said "Mini dp to full dp" at the end, does that mean you are suggesting this specific cable for me to use.
    Again thanks a lot.
