Hi,

I need your help. So I have bought the Spin 5 2022 model and have it for 7 months now. However, there have been two consistent issues with the laptop.

  1. The most annoying is that sometimes (1 out of 10 times) when I plug in the charger, the laptop automatically turns itself off. The charger light on the side is slightly orange. It's not before I actually plug it out and then there is a constant orange light indicating that the laptop is charging and working normally again. Is there a way to fix this? I can bring the laptop back to the electronic store, but it will be almost impossible to explain this since the issue will not persist.
  2. The manifactuer, aka. Acer has decided it would be smart when you start your laptop or turn it on from hibernation that your keyboard lightning is constantly on (keyboard lightning timeout; OFF) or the lightning is on with timeout when you don't type anything (keyboard lightning timeout; ON). But I want to have it off all the time. Because of that I have to click on F11 each time I start the laptop or turn it on from hibernation. I have complained to Acer about this, but apparently, they have not fixed it. I know from other posts that I am not the only one and this does not only apply to the Spin-models. Is there a hack or software to have the lightning always off?

Thank you in advance. :)

Don't randomly plug and unplug the power adapter while Windows11 is running, this interferes with the Modern Standby protocol (the new Windows S3 or Sleep Mode). Use your Spin 5 more like your mobile phone and only charge it when you get an alert that the battery charge is getting low. Don't limit the charging to 80% trying to "lengthen battery life" (which is a myth) and Microsoft also recommends the Balanced Power Plan, disabling Hibernate and Fast Startup for Windows11 23H2: Go to "Change what closing the lid does" and "Change settings currently unavailable" and disable these 2 options. Reset the Power Plan to factory defaults as you may have edited the advanced settings.

It has been scientifically proven that you can leave a power adapter plugged in 24/7 without affecting Li-Ion battery wear.

Sometimes when connecting or disconnecting power Windows thinks you have requested a sleep mode. Typically just hitting a key, and perhaps logging in again, should recover from that. It's an annoyance but not usually critical.

It used to be that the only choices for keyboard backlights was off on on with timer. It's nice that they now allow toggling it on all the time, but you really don't want that as the default, since it will run your battery down much faster than the defaults. It would be nice to have that toggle be dependent on connection of the charger, so under charger power you could have it default to that mode and to the normal when on battery, but we'll just have to wait to see if Acer adds that to something like the Acer Care Center app. You might get in touch With them to ask for that feature add. We're all just other Acer users here, none of their engineers or marketing types hang out.

    Thanks for your replies.

@billsey: I have already sent feedback about the keyboard backlight issue. They updated the BIOS without even bothering to add such an easy feature.

@Puraw: Only charging when Windows requests me to plug in the charger. It has been like this since I bought it 7 months ago and this annoying restart issue once the charger is plugged in has become more frequent. I am afraid it's related to the battery/BIOS, but I doubt it. I think it's more of a Windows 11 issue. God *****, Windows 11 sucks. So unstable in every way. Then again, most of the Windows versions were unstable for the first couple of years. However, it does not make them less annoying. I will remove the hibernate option. And Balanced Power Option is the only one I got by default.

If you have any more suggestions, please help me. Especially with the randomly restarting plugged-in charger issue.
