Predator Orion 5000 PO5-640-EB11 RAM upgrade compatibility help, need to find the correct RAM

Greetings,

I am relatively new to this kind of stuff and had just ordered the predator orion 5000 po5-640-eb11 and is in the process of looking to upgrade its 16gb of ram to 32, and I am looking for help in terms of finding appropriate memory to purchase.

The existing ram is ddr5 4800MHz 2x8Gb and I want to use the machine mostly for gaming. I will probably get rid of the default ram and install new ones.

From what I've researched it looks like the crucial 16gbx2 kit CL40 at 4800MHz is a decent choice. However, I was wondering if it is possible and/or worth to get memory with lower CAS latency (suggested by some friends i game with). I heard that the BIOS hard locks the frequency at 4400 so there is no benefit to getting higher-frequency memory. However, I don't mind getting a higher frequency lower CL memory and having it downclock to 4400 if it improves performance.

Therefore, I was wondering if corsair vengance CL36 series or kingston fury beast 4800MHz 38cl would be a better choice than the crucial. Can someone kindly advise me on how to proceed with purchasing?

we just got a BIOS update that unlocked the XMP, so now whatever memory we have will work at the advertised speed, i had replaced my stock 2x8 Samsung with 4x16 Crucial and now I'm getting 4800, before this update, i was only getting 4000, and another member i know is getting 5600 with his 2x16, so make sure wherever you get it from, it can be returned in case it doesn't work with the XMP update, another member bought 5200 and his wont post with XMP on, so something to think about when buying memory, because there is no way to guarantee it will work, until it's in our pc and you turn XMP on, and try to boot to desktop, without XMP on you will only get 4400x2 and 4000x4.

Hi, I saw some of your other posts too and it seems like you have quite a bit of experience in this particular area.

I don't mind as much if I can't XMP for the life of me but I really want to buy something that will just work at least at the base 4400mhz.

As I said I've been recommended to get something with faster CL but at this point I'm not really sure if the machine will even support it at all, since there are many posts with people having issues with corsair vengeance 5k+ sticks.

The options I'm current dwelling with are:

corsair vengeance 5600mhz 36cl
kingston fury beast 4800mhz 38cl
crucial 4800mhz basic 40cl

Do you think options 1/2 could work or should I just not bother trying and get the basic crucial sticks for safety.

Also, does the machine support 2x 32gb? Crucial website says it does but I'm skeptical. However, if we're 100% certain 2x 32gb crucial could work I could go for that as well. What do you think?

Also, how bothersome is it to upgrade the cooling to a noctua?

well, ty everything i have learned, i learned from the experts here and members over time, the XMP profile is in the BIOS in advanced settings then advanced and it's at the top of that section, all you do is enable it and restart, ide go with the crucial and it's so cheap now at 40 per stick, you may as well get 4x16 and max the memory out, the CL i believe only matters when you have a MB that allows Overlocking and adjusting the timings, ours doesn't, and no our Mb only supports 16 gig chips per slot, the Noctua cooler upgrade it easy, ya take the old one out and put the new one in, i have a post here were i detail it and any problems i ran into, ya need screws tho to mount the Noctua, unless you take out the MB and use the mounting hardware that come with the Noctua cooler, but you don't have to, all you need is 4-3x10mm screws from any hardware store, and read the instructions lol, then when you do install that cooler, use you stock cooler fan right above the cooler as exhaust, like i did at first until you get another, the screws to mount the fans on the top rack are 1-1/4 in length and the diameter i used a 8-32 with nuts, pretty simple stuff, if ya need more help just ask !!@!!

Does the default ram come in slots 1/2 and is accessible without removing the cooler? I don't really want to deal with the fan and reapplying thermal grease while replacing RAM.

Also, how bad are the temps in game mode? asking since I likely won't have the time to get around to the cooler atm so I was wondering if I can get by for several months on the stock fans.

there is no way of telling if that pro ddr5@5600 will work until it's in your pc, but it should, i saw that and wanted to buy it, BUT since i paid almost 300 for my 4x16, now i see its down to 40 per stick ugh lol, I'm not spending anymore on memory atm.

trust me 4800@64 gigs is amazing, the more memory the better, no 32 gigs will outdo my 4x16 no matter what the MHz is, just put your 2x16 ya buy in the same slots the factory memory came in, slots 1 and 3, and you could run 2x16 and 2x8 for 48 gigs, i did that for over 6 months and that was a lot faster than just 32 alone, and yes u can squeeze a ram stick in under the cooler we have all done it, just be patient and take your time is all, i had to slightly bend mine to get it to drop in.

well, it all depends on what games you run, i was getting 63C with the stock cooler on max settings@1080P with Days Gone-RDR2-Terminator Resistance-Shadow of The Tomb Raider etc. with my fans in gaming mode, now with that Noctua NH-U12A i get 38-48 depending on if my central air is on or my central heat.

ambient room temperatures matter ALOT, more than i initially knew about, that's why in the summer like now with AC on, i leave the front and side panels off, and I'm getting 38 on the CPU and 48 on the GPU, if you can afford it buy 2x120mm high velocity fans -i got cooler master mobius high velocity- and put them as exhaust on the top rack that should help, you could even get a 3000 rpm fan for the cooler and see if that helps, until your ready to swap out for a new cooler.

@chugzilla hi chugzilla, been following your stuff on here for a week weeks now as I can see you know what you’re talking about. I’ve already fitted the Noctua NH-U12a from your post which went great, my temps have dropped so much so thankyou for the walkthrough!

Anyway, the point of this post also fitted two sticks of 16gb crucial ram ddr5 5600mhz.
I mostly play Modern warfare 3, it runs fine with the new ram but as soon as I enable XMP the game crashes pretty much as soon as I load into a game with either a ‘DirectX error’ or the pc just crashes and needs resetting by holding down the power button.

As soon as I disable XMP it works okay and doesn’t crash. Any idea how to fix this as I’d like to use the full potential of the ram and it not to be stuck at 4400.

np yw and ty, just remember everything i have learned here and i mean EVERYTHING is from the members here who know more than i do and helped me over the last year and a half i have been coming here. -neogeo-billsey-stevengen-gotbanned- just to name a few. there are many others.

now i do not play COD at all, do you have any other games to test it in?

and is it the crucial pro or crucial standard DDR5?

and is that memory in the same 2 slots the original memory came in?

and I'm glad you got that Noctua cooler i have had mine in over a year now and it is amazing.

yeah I do have other games, haven’t got round to trying that yet but I’ll give it a go and let you know. It’s the standard one, I looked at the pro but the pro was a lot cheaper for some reason so I stuck with the standard version which had good reviews.
Yeah, I put them in exactly the same slots the old ram come out of which is slot 1 and 3.

ok then i have no idea since i don't have COD or the same memory as you. I'm running crucial 4x16@4800 and it works great, i have no issues at all. so, test it out on other games. but sometimes it's as simple as removing it and putting it back in.
